Groucho Marx - The secret of life is honesty and fair...

If the garbage man calls, tell him we don’t want any.”   —   Groucho Marx

(Why would the garbage man ever call???  Strange quote, in my opinion.  But this was an easier solve, for me, than the Celebrity Cipher.  Today’s utilized numbers, and I wasn’t sure if they were in code, or not.  I finally had to resort to the clue that they provide.  I hate doing that!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Groucho Marx - Hollywood Star Walk - Los Angeles Times

I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.”   —   Groucho Marx

(I used that line a lot in college when people asked me why I wasn’t in a fraternity!  Too clique-ish and juvenile for me.  Some people just aren’t joiners, and I’m one of them.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

How Groucho Marx fell prey to elder abuse | PBS NewsHour

My mother loved children.  She would have given anything if I had been one.”   —   Groucho Marx

(Even though we have had this very quote before – and not all that long ago – I still found it a challenging solve.  Groucho was a very funny fellow.  I’m sure that there are other Groucho quotes worthy of the Cryptoquote.  How ’bout it, Becks?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Happy birthday to John Legend.  (Sappy balladeer dug by chicks, and used by guys to get said chicks.)

My mother loved children – she would have given anything if I’d been one.”   —   Groucho Marx

(Well, I think coming out of the womb with a lit cigar would disappoint any woman!  I can’t imagine Groucho being what you’d call . . . a pleasant child.  I’m sure he was a wisenheimer his entire life.  We’re all the better for it, but I bet his mom paid the price.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I never forget a face, but in your case, I’ll be glad to make an exception.”   —   Groucho Marx

(One of the funniest men of all time!  I’m not sure if he would make it in 2019, as his humor would probably be labeled as “misogynistic”.  How would Winnie the Pooh put it???  “Oh, bother.”  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I didn’t like the play but then I saw it under adverse conditions – the curtain was up.”   —   Groucho Marx

(Ooh!  Burn!  Groucho was the master of the subtle – and not so subtle – insult.  All in good fun though.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I find television very educating.  Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.”   —   Groucho Marx

(Just a little irony, from one of the kings of the Golden Age of Television!  I highly doubt that he found anything dull about the paychecks TV provided him!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(I’m sure Groucho was born a smart-mouthed, middle aged, wise guy!  He might have looked like a baby, but it was probably like that Our Gang episode, where Stymie figured out:  Dey ain’t no babies.  Dey’re fidgets!  The Marx Brother’s movies and the Our Gang/Little Rascals shorts were the funniest things I’ve probably ever watched.  Although, The Birdcage, with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, was probably the funniest modern era movie I’ve ever watched.  I laughed so hard I cried.  Laughter is definitely the best medicine.  I feel so cleansed after a real good laugh.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(A little tougher than it looks!  I always love a good Groucho quote.  We need to see more of them, in my opinion.  A little surprised we didn’t get one last Mother’s Day quote.  I’ll give you a Groucho Mom quote:  “My mother loved children – – – she would have given anything if I had been one.”  Not sure I get it, but he said it!  Be well and do good, friends.  Oh!  And, a Happy Mother’s Day to all of our moms!)   —   YUR
