Answer:  LONG LIFE SPAN

(Most older major bridges were built with the intention of lasting – with an expected amount of maintenance – virtually forever.  The ones built in the 1950s and 1960s all seem to have a 50 year life expectancy!  Very strange.  Was it because of some morose Cold War mentality?  It’s mind boggling to me.

There were no new clue words today, but three of the jumbles were new.  We’ve definitely seen the one of “fervor” before.  The answer letter layout was a wonderful jumble as well.  It was nicely cryptic.  Interesting cartoon.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
