“Animals are such agreeable friends – they ask no questions; they pass no criticisms.” — George Eliot
(Thank you, Ms. Evans! This is so true. All our pets ask of us is to love them. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.” — George Eliot
(Kind of a reverse Boy named Sue! She was born Mary Ann Evans. Like some other women writers of the time she felt that a man’s name would help her to be taken more seriously. I’m sure that it helped, as she is known for a number of 19th Century classics. Strange to read of the open marriages back then! It seems that many poets/authors had a strong affinity for autumn! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

“Delicious Autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.” — George Eliot
(Good ol’ George! Not exactly fair of face. Oh, is this a form of body shaming??? And, what if it is? Get over it! Anybody who loves Autumn – like me – is alright in my book. But hey, she was actually a Monday’s child! So anyway, I love her quote. But, I’m not sure that it would be possible to seek successive autumns, by flying about the world. “It will never rain roses: when we want to have more roses we must plant more trees.” — George Eliot
(I think she really meant bushes, because roses don’t grow on trees, but I get it. Let’s plant more trees anyways! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
“More helpful than all wisdom is one draft of human pity that will not forsake us.” — George Eliot
(I’ve seen this one with draft spelt draught, and also with the word simple preceding the word human. Sympathy and empathy are more necessary than many people think. If you have them, now, try not to lose them. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
“There are certain things we feel to be beautiful and good, and we must hunger after them.” — George Eliot
(Ugh. Poet talk. It just doesn’t resonate with me. Beer, pizza, sports and police procedurals is more my speed. Okay, I do enjoy museums and the ballet. And, I occasionally do the wine and cheese thing, and go to see the occasional Broadway show. But, that’s it. I don’t do poetry. You’re on your own with the above. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
“We mortals, men and women, devour many a disappointment between breakfast and dinnertime.” — George Eliot
(I know this is just a line, spoken by a character in one of her books, but it’s kind of a negative half-truth. We also experience a number of wins throughout the day as well. Some days, the minuses outweigh the pluses, but other days the opposite is also true. Life might not be a perfect balance, but it’s always best to accentuate the positives. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
“The words of genius have a wider meaning than the thought that prompted them.” — George Eliot
(This is actually just part of a line from her first novel: Adam Bede. The full line is: “Beauty has an expression beyond and far above the one woman’s soul that it clothes, as the words of genius have a wider meaning than the thought that prompted them.” I find her way of writing difficult to read. My Homer Simpson brain needs plain talk. Be better than yer uncle. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
PS. I threw in this picture of a cat named George Eliot, because my buddy, Carlo, is looking to place a new stray he has kind of adopted. 4 is enough for him, and this latest one makes five. It’s a male, with a dark tabby top and white lower face, bib and front and back legs. Jersey City, NJ – if anyone is interested. — YUR
“Blessed is the influence of one true, loving human soul on another.” — George Eliot
(As lovely a sentiment as I’ve ever heard. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
