VONEY = ENVOY, USEQT = QUEST, MUTUNA = AUTUMN, EGDELP = PLEDGE — Giving us: NYUSTAUPDG
Clue/Question: The comedian was well-respected. Everyone considered him to be a – – –
Answer: STAND–UP GUY
(Aah! That old gag! Actually, it’s a pretty good pun! Ya gotta hand it to Hoyt. None of today’s clue words are new. But, a couple of the jumbles appear to be new. Hoyt has used “voney” and “mutuna” before. I was very surprised to see that he used “egdelp” though. It is “pledge” exactly backwards. He usually doesn’t resort to that. The answer letter layout was his best jumble. Although, I probably would have swapped “autumn” and “pledge”, to avoid the obvious UP that we got. But, then again, not everybody writes out the answer letter layout the way yer uncle does, so . . . psshh. The cartoon brought back some old memories for me. I went to Zanies a couple of times when I was on assignments in Nashville. It’s a great comedy club. Technically, it’s more in Brentwood, but that’s actually where the office was too. It’s a nice suburb of Nashville, maybe 15 minutes from downtown. I always stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott, as seen above, when I was there. This was back when yer uncle was a corporate monkey. Thanks for the memories, boys! You know, someone should pay me for all this free advertising! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
