The Right Man | The New Yorker

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little.”   —   Edmund Burke

(You’ve heard tell that:  A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, right?  Well, there’s probably no greater truism.  Every little bit helps.  You don’t have to lead the revolution, or cry out the loudest.  You just have to engage in the process, in some form or fashion.  Attend a rally, make a contribution, or just sign a petition.  Individually, we may be able to “do only a little”, but collectively we can become a force for positive change.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

As wealth is power, so all power will infallibly draw wealth to itself by some means or other.”   —   Edmund Burke

(Words that Jeff Bezos lives by?  In my newspaper they smushed together “means” and “or” to make meansor!  That was the only thing though.  This was a relatively easy solve.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

People will not look forward to prosperity who never look backward to their ancestors.”   —   Edmund Burke

(In order to know where you’re going, you have to know where you have been.  History, personal and otherwise, is more important than a lot of people think.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

People will not look forward to posterity who never look backward to their ancestors.”   —   Edmund Burke

(Knowing your past, and where you came from, is important.  But, too many of the old Brits – and too many other people today – put just a little too much stock in it.  They use/d it as a way to elevate themselves, while subjugating others.  Not fair.  Not cool.  We are all created equally, and should be valued/judged on our own merits and deeds.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Republican backed nominee Michael Bloomberg

As wealth is power, so all power will infallibly draw wealth to itself by some means or other.”   — Edmund Burke

(Do you think that Michael Bloomberg fought so hard, for what was – at the time – an illegal third term as mayor of New York City, because he wasn’t profiting from the position???  Forget about his taking only a single dollar in annual salary.  That’s just a smokescreen.  Why do you think Rahm Emanuel wants to be mayor of Chicago so badly, making a mockery of residency laws?  Why does just about every member of Congress start running for re-election within a few months of their initial election victory?  We need unassailable term limits, and much more oversight, accountability and transparency.  Public service was never intended to be profitable, at least not to such an obscene extent.)   — YUR

To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting.”   — Edmund Burke

(For people who are so fortunate to be able to read so fast, and seem to read all the time, I can see how this might be an issue.  But for shlubs like me, who read at a sub-vocal level, we can’t afford to not reflect.)   — YUR
