Edgar Allan Poe Experience at The Rye Arts Center

At midnight, in the month of June, I stand beneath the mystic moon.     Edgar Allan Poe

(This is his opening line from his poem:  “The Sleeper”.  Sounds like a good opening to me.  Poe is one of the few poets that I can – generally – understand.  And, I’m a big fan of my birth month.  He was also a literary critic!  Sad, lonely life though.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of beauty.”   —   Edgar Allan Poe

(Once again, this one took me some time to get started.  I suspected that the V was the E, but couldn’t be certain.  And, I had a hard time figuring if the U was the A, or the I.  When I finally paid some attention to the author – something I try to avoid – I was able to see the E and A more clearly.  But still, decoding the entire cryptogram took some effort.  Good one!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  I was never aware of Poe’s military “career”!  See the link below for an interesting read.   —   YUR

Of puns it has been said that they who most dislike them are least able to utter them.”   —   Edgar Allen Poe

(A very clever quote, and one that I agree with.  I’m sure there’s at least a little jealousy in those who complain about puns.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things that escape those who dream only at night.”   —   Edgar Allan Poe

(Sounds like the same crap my son tries to pass off when confronted with his staying up all hours and sleeping through a good part of the day.  He doesn’t understand the importance of maintaining good circadian rhythms.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
