Answer:  AN EARFUL

(I think Hoyt has must be watching old re-runs of “Hee Haw!”  The boys have been giving us bounteous amounts of down home farm, and barnyard, themed puzzles, lately.  Well, it does seem that a slew of our well-known idioms originated with our more rural roots.

All of today’s clue words are old favorites, once again.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, with “laurr” having definitely been used before.  The answer letter layout was a cracker of a jumble, as well.  Looking at it, before looking at the cartoon and the clue/question, didn’t give me any more than AN for the first word!  The cartoon was just your essential fence and field.  Jeff’s thinking was probably just Git-r-done!  Back in the days before cable, when we only had 3 VHF channels and 1 UHF channel, I was kind of forced to watch certain shows that I wouldn’t exactly have chosen on my own.  One of them was “The Lawrence Welk Show”, and the other was “Hee Haw”.  Ironically, Lawrence Welk was cornier than Hee Haw!  At least Hee Haw had purty girls in halter tops and cut-off shorts!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
