War Is Hell (1973 Marvel) National Diamond comic books 1973

They fight not for the lust of conquest.  They fight to end conquest.  They fight to liberate.”   —   President Franklin D. Roosevelt on D-Day

(Our troops: the soldiers, sailors and airmen, are generally men and women of honor.  But those who commit them to battle are often a different story.  Also remembering General Omar N. Bradley, who commanded the First United States Army, during the invasion of Normandy.  And author of today’s Celebrity Cipher.  Yes, I do both!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Active behavior on Haystack Fire closes campground, pre-evacuation notices issued | KECI

Visual Description:  Nature sold-out!

Clue/Question:  The campground was closing for good.  So any future talk about it would be – – –

Self-Storage Building Systems | Butler Buildings

(Now, this is a good stinky pun!  And, it also looks like some of the comments that I read on Facebook!  I don’t understand how some of these people even made it out of elementary school.  We’ve all seen people write “to” when they should’ve written “too”.  I guess we’re all a little guilty, from time to time, especially when we’re rushing.  But “your” for “you’re” just seems lazy to me.  And, I really don’t get when people write “then” when they’re meaning “than”, and “are” when they mean “our”!  C’mon, folks!

All of the clue words are on the ralis95 clue word database.  It’s been a while since we’ve seen “strand”.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “dartns” in previous Jumbles.  The answer letter layout was a nifty nine letter jumble.  I didn’t find it at all obvious.  The whole setup, and the quotation marks in the final answer slots were what made for a quick solve, for me.

Fun cartoon of the one time popular campground that is about to become, what looks like, a self-storage facility.  We’re a society that no longer makes products that can easily be fixed.  And, at the same time, we don’t like to throw much of anything out.  It’s “our stuff”, and we want to hold on to it, even if it means putting it away in some crazy garage-like rental unit.  This isn’t what The Greatest Generation fought for!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The Rose Bowl is the only bowl I’ve ever seen that I didn’t have to clean.”   —   Erma Bombeck

(Good ol’ Erma!  I always enjoyed her columns.  It’s hard to believe she’s been gone 23 years.  She was one heck of a dame!  I know it’s a day late, but bless all the service members who participated in the D-Day Invasion of 1944.  We all owe a debt of gratitude to the “Greatest Generation”.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
