Answer: “THIRST” –AID
(If I had entered the New York City Marathon yesterday . . . I might be finishing up about now. Maybe not! I successfully ran a 5K once, and that was at least five years ago, before my knees were surgically repaired. So, could I actually run a race about ten times that length? Possibly. With a lot of training . . . maybe. Fortunately, none of my close friends or relatives are runners. So, I don’t really have to worry about the peer pressure. Phew!
We have seen all of today’s clue words in previous Jumbles. Two of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “vtido” and “sitoh” before. They all jumped off the page for me this morning. The answer letter layout was a nifty nine letter jumble. I thought it was run-derfully cryptic. This was one of those total package solves.
Fine cartoon of some long distance runners. I watched some of the marathon yesterday, as the women were finishing their last couple of miles. I thought that the two Kenyan women kind of colluded to box out the Ethiopian woman. They ran side by side in front of Ababel Yeshaneh, not letting her through! I think this frustrated her, while the two Kenyans saved a little bit of energy, pacing themselves. As they entered Central Park, Yeshaneh desperately swung wide to pass the two, but the two Kenyans had some reserves, and quickly passed her to finish the race one and two. I saw no formal protest, but it just didn’t sit right with me. Did anybody else see it my way? Fun Jumble. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
