“When inviting company, do not tempt the palate with a great variety of unhealthful dainties.” — Catherine Beecher
(Hey! It’s Harriet’s sister! She was a 19th Century American educator, and she was also an early feminine activist. She opposed the Indian Removal Bill, because she saw how devastatingly unfair it was to native Americans. Unfortunately, Andrew Jackson got his way, which led to a series of forced relocations of southern tribes. Of the 46,000 or so people forcibly moved/removed nearly 16,000 perished! That is more than a full 1/3. Just a little more of America’s bloody history. Surprisingly, Catharine – the correct spelling – was NOT a feminist. But, she was a very cool lady, and is brand new to the Cryptoquote! So, we welcome her to the Cryptoquote Club today. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
