Cody Schultz — Studying The Masters: Ansel Adams

A good photograph is knowing where to stand.”   —   Ansel Adams

(Now THAT  ^^^^^ is knowing where to stand!  Kinda like the old acting advice:  just hit your marks and deliver your lines.  Spencer Tracy put it this way: “Know your lines and don’t bump into the furniture.”  All the pros just emphasize the basics.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Ansel Adams, Photographer - A Biography

In wisdom gathered over time I have found that every experience is a form of exploration.”   —   Ansel Adams

(Do you think he meant every NEW – or maybe EACH instead of every – experience, because everything we do – even if we do it routinely – is an experience, isn’t it?   Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Not everybody trusts paintings, but people believe photographs.”   —   Ansel Adams

(Ahh!  The relative innocence of a new technology/art form.  Old Ansel was – after all is said and done – a commercial artist.  He must have made this statement without the idea of trick photography and special/optical effects.  With green-screen and computer programs they can make anything seem real.  Governments rely on the majority of their people adhering to the old adage:  Seeing is believing.  In reality, the only things we can truly believe – beyond a shadow of a doubt – are things that we see live, and not on film or video.  If you never saw it, I highly recommend watching the 1997 feature film Wag the Dog.  It’s got a great cast, it’s a good story, and it shows what governments can do when they want to frame a story.  Be well, do good . . . and take everything you think you’re seeing with a grain of salt, friends.)   —   YUR
