No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow.”   —   Alice Walker

(That one is kind of a no-brainer, Alice.  I know I’d have a hard time calling someone like that “friend”.  It sounds to me a little more like politics/diplomacy, where they call someone an “ally”, and then smile as they have to eat a shit sandwich.  Be well and do good, friends.  And don’t forget, yer uncle encourages comments!)   —   YUR

Everyone brings us something of value, even if it seems totally negative to us at the time we receive it.”   —   Alice Walker

(Even if it’s just coming away from that person/situation knowing that that is NOT how you treat another person!  Hopefully, it won’t be that extreme, but . . .  Sometimes it’s just a matter of better understanding the person’s point of view, when it’s contrary to your own.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

It may be half full of water, precious in itself, but in the other half there’s a rainbow that could exist only in the vacant space.”   —   Alice Walker

Look closely at the present you are constructing.  It should look like the future you are dreaming.”   —   Alice Walker

(Then don’t be dreaming of a future of do-nothing-ism!  Because that kind of present is destructive.  Be well and do well, friends.)   —   YUR

The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”   —   Alice Walker

(And this, unfortunately, is not entirely by accident.  The people in positions of power, and the governmental systems themselves, foster and encourage the feelings of powerlessness.  They want the majority of us to be a combination of:  scared, humbled, and dependent.   When you are scared, humbled and dependent you DO have NO power.  Don’t allow yourself to fall into these traps, because you DO have power.  All of us DO.  They can only hold power over us . . . if we let them.  Think for yourself.  Question authority.  Resist dependence and complacency.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Yes, mother.  I can see you are flawed.  You have not hidden it.  That is your greatest gift to me.”   —   Alice Walker

(Looks like this is the first Alice Walker quotation since I’ve been posting these spoilers!  I think it’s very healthy for children to see that their parents are only human.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
