English: Alice Roosevelt’s formal portrait by the classical French academic painter, Théobald Chartran (1849-1907). Painted around 1901, when her father, Theodore Roosevelt, became president. From my personal collection. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
“If you can’t say something good about someone, sit right here by me.” — Alice Roosevelt Longworth
(I guess Teddy’s girl really liked her gossip! It’s part of human nature. Gossip can certainly be hurtful. But, it can also be benign, if done discreetly, and doesn’t contain half-truths or outright lies. When it comes to gossip, it’s probably better to be more the sponge than a spreader. As with “news” and “info” from so-called credible sources, you have to both consider the source, and take it all with a grain of salt. Regardless, it’s a clever paraphrasing of the old saw. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
