Books serve to show a man that those original thoughts of his aren’t very new at all.”   —   Abraham Lincoln

(I don’t know.  People are still coming up with incredible ideas all the time.  Every time I watch “The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation”, with Mo Rocca, I’m impressed with all the inventions and new ideas.  The show is geared for teenagers, but my wife and I love it.  I’ve really got to get to the Henry Ford – Museum and Greenfield Village, in Dearborn, MI, one day.  It seems to have everything.  And, maybe I’ll run into Alie Ward.  She is muy caliente . . . in a nerdy sorta way.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

He can compress the most words into the smallest ideas of any man I ever met.”   —   Abraham Lincoln

(I wonder what blowhard old Abe was referring to?  I love a good backhanded compliment.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?”   —   Abraham Lincoln

(Self-deprecating humor comes in very handy sometimes.  Abe knew he was a little awkward . . . a little odd, by popular standards.  So, he kind of followed the old adage:  When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!  Kind of like Yankee fans this year, getting excited by their big three relievers:  Betances, Miller and Chapman.  They are pretty awesome, but if your starting pitching is dubious – to say the least, and your hitting is anything but consistent, then having the top relievers in the game is only going to help you just so much.  People choose to cling to the positives, and rightly so.  Happy Loving Day to one and all!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business.”   —   Abraham Lincoln

(This could just as easily have been said by President Obama.  I’m not saying that he has been a perfect president.  No president ever was.  Nor am I saying that I’ve agreed with everything he has done.  But, he has demonstrated otherworldly restraint, in not responding to the attacks that have been launched against him, from before the 2008 election, to today.  And, unfortunately, probably tomorrow and the day after that, and the day after that.  His detractors like to assert that their complaints are purely partisan ideology.  And, a bit of that may be true.  But there are bigger, older, and uglier . . . fearful sentiments at play here, that most refuse to acknowledge.  Largely, the same ones Lincoln faced.  And sadly, for the same old nonsensical reasons.  This country still has a long way to go.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.”   —   Abraham Lincoln

(First Abe Lincoln quote in quite a while.  Has anyone seen the cheesy Presidents’ Day sale commercial for Hyundai?  I think it’s probably THE worst Abe Lincoln that anyone has ever put out there.  I don’t know what the heck they were thinking.  Really pathetic.  Much worse than Lincoln in drag!  LOL!

I’m sending out a 1st birthday greeting to my #1 spirit in the sky, my sweet baby, Ginger!  She would have been 11 today.  We all love and miss you, Gingie.  Wally is doing his best to fill in, but we all know who will always be first in our hearts.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Very humbling . . . in that regard.  What’s that line about no new ideas since the Greeks???  I’m sure that even they were late to the game.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Although, this one did not require any decoding!  It comes from the Thought for Today, and since haliburton76 brought up the subject of great men, I give you the following.

When I do good I feel good, when I do bad I feel bad, and that’s my religion.”   —   Abraham Lincoln

(Could it possibly be any simpler, my friends???  This is why I usually end my posts with . . . be well and do good, friends.  Peace.)   —   YUR

(The “right” meaning the North/Free states, I assume.  Do you think he said this prior to the Civil War?  Hmm!  Voting is still important.  The system might be corrupted, but do we really want to resort to bullets!?!?  Get off your butts, and go out and vote!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Sounds like a pretty good poilcy to me!  I’d like to think that I do, but I know that very often I just mail it in.  Doing your best, on a daily basis, is tough work!  But, keeping the concept in the back of your head – each and every day – has got to be a positive!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Happy Birthday, to my friend Ellen!  (aka: Hellen)  When we were kids we used to get these word game books, where there were these short little stories with fill in the blanks that had things like:  Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Number, Color, Boys name, Girls name, and things like that.  The one reading would just ask the other person for the kind of words the blanks called for and write them in, in pencil, of course.  Then they’d actually read the story aloud, with the random response words in the blank spots, and you’d end up with a fairly silly story.  I can’t remember the name of those books.  Do any of you guys remember them???   —   YUR

It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues.”   —   Abraham Lincoln
