Celebrating 100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh: 2022 Lois Lenski Children's Literature Lecture - News - Illinois State

If you live to be one hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.”   —   A.A. Milne

(I’m pretty sure this was one of Winnie the Pooh’s lines, but was it said to Piglet, or to Robin?  It has been too long since I’ve read these stories to my kids.  It’s a beautiful sentiment though.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

As soon as I saw you, I knew a grand adventure was going to happen.   —   A.A. Milne, “Winnie the Pooh”

(In my newspaper, the word “grand” comes up as “guand”, because the second letter was an “F” when it should have been an “L”.  How about your newspaper???  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Piglet noticed that even though he had a very small heart, it could hold a rather large amount of gratitude.”   —   A.A. Milne

(Today is the BIG day for gratitude!  What are you guys thankful for?  I’m thankful for the blessings of my family . . . past and present.  I’m also thankful for my friends, my readers . . . and my Wally dog!  Happy Thanksgiving, folks!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries.”   —   A.A. Milne

(For me, it’s usually finding a rebate form that has already expired!  Or, a shareholder’s meeting that I missed.  Very rarely is it anything good.  But I guess it works for some.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The end of the summer is not the end of the world.  Here’s to October . . .”   —   A.A. Milne

Don’t underestimate the value of doing nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering.”   —   A. A. Milne

(It’s kind of a shame that he’s remembered, almost exclusively – by shlubs like me, at least – as the guy who wrote “Winnie-the-Pooh”.  He was actually quite prolific, writing screenplays and plays, novels and non-fiction, poetry, etc., etc.  Didn’t a movie about his success with Pooh just come out recently?  I rarely go to the movies these days.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
