Haruki Murakami Says He Doesn't Dream. He Writes. - The New York Times

Pain is inevitable.  Suffering is optional.”   —   Haruki Murakami

(I get the whole mind over matter aspect of this quote.  But I’m sure that a whole lot of people going through chemo and radiation treatments, for cancer, would beg to differ.  I remember reading James Clavell’s “Shogun” –  well, most of it – back in 1980, and being astonished by the outlook of feudal Japan, compared to that of most European societies.  Before I could finish reading it – it’sover 1100 friggin’ pages – the 9 hour television miniseries, starring Richard Chamberlain, went on the air.  While reading it I did pick up a decent amount of Japanese words and sayings.  But that was almost 43 years ago, and I’ve forgotten most of it.  Getting today’s author took a little work.  There were eleven leftover consonants to play with to get the H, K and M, but I was able to suss them out.  We’ve had at least one quote from him before, so something got stuck in the ol’ cranium!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
