Cryptoquote Solved – 02/09/23

Tom Byrne | PORTRAIT OF SAMUEL BECKETT | MutualArt

If you do not love me I shall not be loved!  If I do not love you I shall not love.”   —   Samuel Beckett

(Wow!  A pretty powerful sentiment, from the Irish dramatist, short story writer, and poet.  Among other things.  This is from his poem “Cascando”.  It seems a little strange to me, but this appears to be the first of his quotes to be used in the Cryptoquote.  So we finally welcome him into the Cryptoquote Club today!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Solved – 02/09/23

Giggling toddler gleefully rolls around with litter of golden retriever pups | Daily Mail Online

Visual Description:  Kissing K-9s!

NACKR  =  CRANK,  NLGIF  =  FLING,  LPONLE  =  POLLEN,  MAICSP  =  SCAMPI   —   Giving us:  RKFIGOLNCI

Clue/Question:  When the dogs started playfully “kissing” her face, they were – – –

Wildfire Golden Retrievers of Arizona, Golden Retrievers, Chandler, AZ

Answer:  FROLICKING

(Very cute Jumble!  And it’s an answer that I don’t remember seeing before.  But I do have two questions.  Why does the clue/question use the word “dogs”, when clearly they are puppies?  And, why is the word kissing in quotation marks?  It doesn’t seem necessary to me.  I think there have been a few commercials that show a little kid frolicking on the ground with a bunch of puppies.  I know that this has kind of been one of my daughter’s fantasies!  Especially with Golden Retriever puppies!

All of today’s clue words are on the ralis95 clue word database.  SCAMPI was a little surprising to me.  Especially when you see the definition of the word, which is:  large shrimp or prawns.  So, wouldn’t shrimp scampi be redundant?  I think that the definition should be revised, as you can have other scampis, like chicken scampi.  That might be the only other one, but you know what I mean.  The definition should be about the garlicky sauce, and not the shrimp.  All of today’s jumbles are coming up as new, for me.  The only one I had to think about was “maicsp”!  LOL!  The answer letter layout was a testy ten letter jumble.  I think it disguised the final answer pretty well.

Great cartoon of the little girl frolicking with five puppies!  She looks to be having the time of her life.  And her parents are preparing for – what used to be known as – a “Kodak moment”!  The little girl won’t need any kind of photograph, as she’ll remember this day for the rest of her life.  Lots of fun.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.   On this day in 1944 Alice Walker was born, in 1952 Ralph Ellison’s novel “Invisible Man” wins the National Book Award, and in 1971 Satchel Paige is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, in Cooperstown, NY.  Celebrate Black History!      YUR
