“May your coming year be filledwith magic and dreams and good madness.” —Neil Gaiman
(I think it would be difficult to beat this New Years wish! No wonder people consider him a genius. Consider this post an early New Year’s Eve wish from me too. Even though it’s late for 12/30/22! Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
Clue/Question: The golfers stopped to eat after the ninth hole, but only had rime for a – – –
Answer: ONE–COURSE MEAL
(“A horse is a horse, of course of course. And no one can talk to a horse of course. That is of course unless the horse is the famous Mister Ed! People yakety-yak a streak and waste your time of day. But Mister Ed will never speak, unless he has something to say!” That was a show that I really loved as a kid. I remember my Mom being very dismissive of it. I know it wasn’t exactly high-brow humor, but how could you not laugh at the hijinks of a talking Palomino, who could also use the telephone??? For a silly little sitcom it attracted a who’s who of early 1960s celebrities, in character and guest roles. What’s this got to do with golfers at a golf course? Nuttin’, honey! It just made me think of the theme song.
We have all seen today’s clue words in a number of earlier Jumbles. Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we have definitely seen the jumble “dmome” at some time in the past. They all came to me immediately. Especially uncle! The answer letter layout was a thrilling thirteen letter jumble. Beautifully cryptic! The hyphen in the final answer slots, along with the leading nature of the clue/question, made for a quick solve though.
Fine cartoon of the golfing couple, trying to grab a quick bite, before embarking on the back nine. The snack bar appears to be very affordable. Maybe this is a public course? I like the woman’s signature golf bag! Boy, those Jumble folk are into everything! LOL! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Clue/Question: When it came to making good pillows, she – – –
Answer: KNEW HER STUFF
(I hope she knows enough stuff . . . to stay out of politics! I realize that some people have *special needs*, but for the majority of us a pillow . . . is a pillow! Older ones need replacing after a while, but you don’t need to go crazy buying the latest fancy – and expensive – ones. Clever marketing is steadily making us a country of simpletons! But this Jumble does remind me, I need to buy a new mattress! Mine is killing both of us.
All very familiar Jumble clue words. Two of the jumbles appear to be new, while we’ve definitely seen both “tifha” and “uncess” in previous Jumbles. From the ralis95 clue word database I’m seeing that we should probably NOT fondly fondle the fondue! That stuff gets HOT, and you can burn your little fingers. The answer letter layout was another terrific twelve letter jumble. Fluffily cryptic! But the cartoon and the clue/question made for a quick solve.
Fun cartoon! I like the name of the shop: Leave The Rest To Us. Very clever! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.” —Benjamin Franklin
(Let’s send this quote out to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, etc.! And to all those who profit from war. If only the world was this simple! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
“Last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice.” — T.S. Eliot
(This one was a little tough to get started, even figuring the D was the S. Figuring out T.S. Eliot was my big key! I hope that a saner and calmer voice give us some good words in 2023! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Clue:Question: Even though rabbits aren’t insects, they can be – – –
Answer: GRASS HOPPERS
(Aww! Yes, this is a cute Jumble. Bunnies are so sweet to watch. I remember one year where we were kind of overrun with them. My Golden Retriever, Ginger caught a baby one, but she was very gentle with it. We released it to the forsythia bush where we knew they had a den. But all good things must come to an end. I think between the hawks, the foxes and coyotes – oh, and feral AND domestic cats – their population was drastically reduced. I’ll still see one occasionally, but nowhere’s near what I saw that one year. A year or two later we had the same thing with chipmunks. Nature has cycles like that.
All of today’s clue words are on the ralis95 clue word database. And only one of the jumbles appears to be new. We’ve definitely seen “rpuns”, “curpes” and “bollag” in prior Jumbles. It’s been a while since we’ve seen “spurn”! The answer letter layout was a terrific twelve letter jumble. It looked pretty intimidating – with only the three vowels – until I saw the cartoon and read the clue/question. They made for a quick solve.
Great cartoon of the suburban family observing some unexpected nature. I think the little girl would like to adopt one or more of the bunnies. Very cute. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
“To me every hour of the light and dark is a miracle, every cubic inch of space is a miracle.” —Walt Whitman
(It’s so important to have a keen appreciation of the natural world. Walt was one of the pillars of 19th Century American poetry, and his influence lives on today. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Clue/Question: She thought the sunglasses thatwere discounted 50% were – – –
Answer: “EYE–DEAL“FOR HER
(Oooh! This is a really good, stinky pun! A real sight for sore eyes. David and Jeff were laser focused on this one. In my view, one of their best! No throwing shade here today. EYE like it a lot! Knowing our guys, I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of these bright and shiny Jumbles.
Another one of those days where all of the clue words are already members of the ralis95 clue word database, yet all of the jumbles appear to be new. None of them eluded me though. I spotted them all immediately. The answer letter layout was a thrilling thirteen letter jumble. Suitably cryptic. The quotation marks and hyphen were the big clues for me.
Awesome cartoon of the lady friends shopping for sunglasses at the beach. It looks like they might be up on a boardwalk, and you can see someone lying on a towel, on the beach below. Kind of an unusual treatment of the sky. But I always enjoy the classic sinking sailboat on the horizon! Excellent Jumble. Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
“Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You only need a heart full of grace.” —Martin Luther King Jr.
(A great soul of peace! We could really use a man like him today. But – much like Christ himself – he’d probably be pilloried in social media! Let’s make a New Year’s resolution to limit out use of facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Truth Social, and the like. All this tribalism isn’t healthy. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Clue/Question: They bought ahome in the valleyand were ready to – – –
Answer: SETTLE DOWN
(Maybe these were former mountain folk! Then they would really be settling for this down-low. A very down to earth Jumble pun. It looks like these folks have that pioneering spirit. They have a little water wheel on the side of their cabin, so maybe they have a little gristmill for that wheat that they’ll be growing.
We have seen all of these clue words in previous Jumbles. But all four jumbles are coming up as new for me! They all came to me immediately though. The answer letter layout was a tidy ten letter jumble. Absolutely nothing obvious about it. The leading nature of the clue/question made for a very quick solve.
Really cute cartoon of the settlers. A Ma and a Pa. Although I don’t see any younguns! Their days will be filled with a lot of work, but during their nights they’ll really have to get busy! Hey, they are going to need more hands to make their farm work! My newspaper was the e-edition only today, and the printout – as usual – is a little blurry. Can anyone make out what the little sign above the door says? Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
