Clue/Question: When a plugger never empties the coffee filter, it could be – – –
Answer: GROUNDS FOR DIVORCE
(Two words of advice: Nescafé Clasico. All this hoopla over fresh brewed coffee is a little much, as far as I’m concerned. Yes, we do own a coffee maker. But it only comes out of the box when we have a party. Otherwise we just can’t be bothered with the filter and measuring, and additional cleaning that come with it. A quality instant is so much easier, and just as good. But if you’ve bought into the: Oh, it’s got to be fresh brewed . . . then knock yourself out.
All Clasico Jumble clue words today. Three of the jumbles appear to be new. However, we’ve definitely seen “wynos” some time in the past. I was able to see all the clue words instant-ly. The answer letter layout was a formidable fourteen letter jumble! Well thought out and cryptic. I think the seven FOR seven, in the final answer slots were my biggest clue. But the annoyed spouse also helped.
It’s always fun when the guys allow for guest cartoonists to do the Jumble. My newspaper does not carry “Pluggers”, but the characters kind of resemble those of “Shoe”. That strip is big on puns too. So, now we’ve all met Rick McKee! Now you’re part of Jumble history! And, a thanks to Sandy Epstein, of Fort Lauderdale, for her Jumble pun suggestion. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

Instant coffee as good as real coffee? Unc, have you not had your coffee today??? What’s next – Velveeta as good as fine aged cheese? A Hershey bar equivalent to Godiva chocolate?
I personally grind (burr grinder) gourmet beans most days, and savor a pot made with my MoccaMaster.
I won’t bother to recount the time I tried to ROAST my own beans in the office. Let’s say, by the time the hazmat guys in moon suits were sent away, that I promised to never do that again.
I have yet to taste “quality instant coffee”.
The words were super easy today. The answer not so much.
LOL, Art! Granted, not ALL instant coffee is AS good, but Nescafé is very good. And, I’m sure that you – like me – has had an absolutely awful cup of supposedly “fresh brewed” coffee! I don’t doubt that you make a mean pot of coffee though. I just don’t think the reward is worth all the cost and effort.
I love the roasting incident though! Very funny. Glad I elicited a response from you! — YUR
PS. I won’t touch Velveeta! And, a Hershey bar is better than no chocolate at all.
Most ARE pretty lame, Gloria. Including Taster’s Choice, but I do like Nescafé. And, like I told Art, I’ve had bad “fresh brewed” coffee many times. Starbuck’s always over-roasts their beans, making their coffee bitter. I do like GOOD fresh brewed coffee, I just can’t be bothered with all that it takes to make it. — YUR
OMG Art .. that is hilarious! I’m sure it sounded like a great idea at the time.
We normally brew …. or use Starbucks instant. Good and strong. And before anyone starts a rant on Starbucks — I don’t pay for it. Family and friends started giving me Starbucks cards eons ago and I use them for my Starbucks visit.
Coffee story. Years ago a friend passed away. Some of our friends lived out of state and one was staying with the (former) husb and me. I was heading to the kitchen the morning of the service and heard a couple of guys talking. Now, I had already been to the kitchen and had the coffee brewed. Our out of town guest was apparently getting a cup of coffee and I heard our local friend ask – “Who made the coffee?” Our guest replied, “LL.” Our local friend replied, “NO…don’t drink that, LL makes terrible coffee.” Who knew!! And my poor husb had never said a word!
I did NOT notice we had a guest cartoonist. Thank you Unc!! I did notice the great plugger cartoon, but was too busy working my jumble to notice the introduction. We do still have a Plugger cartoon in our paper. Over and out…LL
Coffee flavor/taste – like many things – is a very subjective thing, LL. I’m a little in the minority, as I like it black, with a little sugar. Most people seem to drink it either with just cream/milk, or with cream/milk AND sugar! The latter is the way I first *learned* to like coffee when I was in my teens. I kind of *graduated* to black with sugar when I was 20. Been drinking it that way ever since! (45 years) Although, my endocrinologist doesn’t like my using sugar! I can drink it just black, but that’s a little harsh. I cheat a bit. But I always USED TO drink each cup with two rounded teaspoons of sugar, and now it’s just one level teaspoon. My one step-son, who’s now 49, still drinks it with a lot of milk and about 3 teaspoons of sugar! I always tease him: How ’bout a little coffee with your cream and sugar?!
I think most of us enjoy Guest Cartoonist week. It exposes us to a lot of different comics. — YUR
