Cryptoquote Solved – 10/18/22

111 Quotes To Live By - Short Poems & Quotes

May your years be counted not by your age but by how you spend your days.”   —   Catherine Pulsifer

(Fairly tough solve for me!  I had to use Google to get her last name.  Catherine is a writer and poet, from Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.  Very inspirational stuff.  This seems to be her first quote to appear in the Cryptoquote.  So, we Welcome Ms. Pulsifer to the Cryptoquote Club today!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Volkswagen Karmann Ghia For Sale - BaT Auctions

Answer:  FIXATION

(A classic stinky pun for a classic VW Beetle!  Growing up you would almost always see a Volkswagen on the road.  For a long time the only model that was sold in the U.S. was the “Bug”.  Sometimes, you would see the Volkswagen Microbus.  And occasionally, you might have seen a Karmann Ghia!  They were cute little sports cars.  A guy that I worked with owned one.  His name was Ken, and he too was a wiseguy.  For a few years in the early ’70s they made this Jeep-looking thing called – in the U.S. – the “Thing”.  Then they rolled out the Volkswagen Rabbit, which eventually became the Golf.  They also had a sub-compact called the Fox.  Not sure if they still make that.  They stopped making the Beetle for a number of years, but they brought it back as the the “New Beetle” for a while in the early ’00s.  That’s when kids came up with the “Punch Buggy” road game.  But that was discontinued again!  Now, Volkswagen has around 15 different models.  My buddy just bought a Taos!

We’ve seen all of today’s clue words on multiple occasions.  And, only one of the jumbles is coming up as new.  We’ve definitely seen “reetx”, “sijto” and “sifuno” in previous Jumbles.  The answer letter layout was an earnest eight letter jumble.   I thought it was sufficiently cryptic.  But the word “obsession” in the clue/question made for a quick solve.  Much quicker than Jeff will ever get that thing on the road!

Great cartoon though.  Jeff looks cute with a wrench in his had, and goggles on.  At least it looks like he’s got every part laid out in a semi-orderly fashion.  But Kathy looks like she’s pretty exasperated with all the clutter in their driveway . . . and Jeff’s time-sink.  I guess it’s more productive than spending all day on Facebook . . . or writing a blog.  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
