Cryptoquote Solved – 10/12/22

How Ralph Waldo Emerson Changed American Poetry | The New Yorker

People do not seem to realize that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.”   —   Ralph Waldo Emerson

(Spoken like a man who hasn’t lived through multiple “thousand year”:  droughts, wildfires, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, heatwaves, floods, etc., . . . in the last 10-20 years!  Not to mention all the human rights violations, and wars, going on around the world.  He was also fortunate not to live through four years of “45”!  And, letting him become “47” – I fear – would be the end of democracy as we know it.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Solved – 10/12/22

Basement Office : r/HomeImprovement

Visual Description:  Cinderella Cinderblock.

VOCEL  =  CLOVE,  RNOFT  =  FRONT,  TBINET  =  BITTEN,  LAMSNO  =  SALMON   —   Giving us:  CLERTBESAL

Clue/Question:  The author converted her basement into a place to write, and the result was a – – –

Vinyl Hopper Window | Harvey Windows + Doors

Answer:  BEST CELLAR

(A wonderful Jumble pun.  And, one I’m pretty sure we’ve seen before.  But I’m sure the statute of limitations has been exceeded.  So, it definitely wasn’t used recently.  The guys wouldn’t do that to us.  “Cellar” is kind of an unusual noun, meaning a “group of cells/rooms”.  It’s been around – in various spellings – for a millennia, but as a synonym for basement for about 500 years.

All of today’s clue words are on the world famous ralis95 clue word database.  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “vocel” and “tbinet” in previous Jumbles.  They all came to me right away.  The answer letter layout was a terrific ten letter jumble.  Not obvious, by itself.  The cartoon’s dialog set up the homonym pun very nicely.

Great cartoon of the writer in her basement office.  I guess they’re great for some quiet solitude.  They could get a little cool and damp though.  I liked the cinder block wall, and the hopper window.  I guess it could be an awning window, but it looks like it opens from the top.  Fun Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
