Clue/Question:  The highest bid for the cartoonist’s sketch at the auction was – – –

7 scathing cartoons about Republicans' defense of Russia

Answer:  DRAW DROPPING

(Ooh!  A very stinky pun.  And, it doesn’t exactly roll off of one’s tongue, as jaw dropping does.  But I’d say that this was a fairly challenging Jumble.  I didn’t even pick up on all the gaping maws in the cartoon, until I got the answer!  My first inclination was that the second word was DRAWING, but that left me short one space.  Then, I put in DRAW between the quotation marks, and the rest of the answer dropped into place.

All of the clue words are on the ralis95 clue word database.  But three of today’s jumbles are coming up as new!  We’ve definitely seen “ragud” before.  I thought the jumble for “privy” was fairly challenging.  Because of its pronunciation, I often think that it should be spelled privvy, kind of like savvy is spelled.  The way it’s – correctly – spelled almost calls for the hard I, but at least it’s a word that Americans and the Brits pronounce – and spell – the same!  The answer letter layout was a tantalizing twelve letter jumble.  I don’t think it gave anything away.

Great cartoon of Jeff and some of his cohorts.  The only one that stands out for me is Steve Pastis, as Jeff has featured him numerous times.  Not sure if the woman is also a cartoonist, or just someone with deep pockets.  Maybe I should put my Knurek sketches up on Ebay!  LOL!  Gee, I hope that this auction was for charity.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Cryproquote Solved – 09/16/22

Mark Twain | Unclerave's Wordy Weblog | Page 2

Age is an issue of mind over matter.  If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”   —   Mark Twain

(Maybe his best known, and oft borrowed/repeated quote!  WordPress used to kind of rank the most often used Tags – which for me are largely quote sources – by giving them a larger font.  I miss those days.  But most – American – cryptogram solvers know that Mark Twain is right up there with William Shakespeare as most quote worthy.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
