Cryptoquote Solved – 09/06/22

Diary of a Wimpy Kid' author Jeff Kinney to be UMD's winter commencement speaker

I’ve never run into a person who yearns for their middle school days.      Jeff Kinney

(Even though I’ve always found certain girls very attractive, I think the one positive I can think of for middle – or junior high – school is that tween/teen sexual awakening that takes place during those years.  Being terribly shy, I never acted on it, of course, but I definitely felt it.  Ahh, Jill T.!  What could have been!  It seems this is the first quote from the author/cartoonist of the series “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” used at the Cryptoquote.  So, we welcome Jeff Kinney to the Cryptoquote Club today!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Solved – 09/06/22

Field Trips – Old Baker Farm

Visual Description:  Barnyard banter.

THCUH  =  HUTCH,  DDOEG  =  DODGE,  ROBWOR  =  BORROW,  RAQESU  =  SQUARE   —   Giving us:  HHDDERRAE

Clue/Question:  They couldn’t see the many cows mooing in the distance, but they – – –

Farm field trip for Dobson | The Elkin Tribune

Answer:  HEARD THE HERD

(Of course they did.  The point is moo-t!  I always enjoy the homophonic puns.  Even the ones an eleven year could get!  Today is kind of the default Monday Jumble, even though it’s a Tuesday, as we’ve just come out of a long holiday weekend.  That’s probably why the guys are taking it easy on us.  I’m sure even them city slickers got this one right away!

All of today’s clue words have been used before.  But because of SQUARE, I decided to look up 5 and 6 letter words starting with SQUA, and I found two 5 letter words that are NOT on the world famous ralis95 clue word database, that David L. Hoyt could not possibly object to!  And no, one of them is not SQUAW!  They are:  SQUAD and SQUAT.  Neither word is used as any kind of negative epithet, as far as I can tell, so Hoyt should have no objection to using either one of them.  I did find a couple of 6 letter words, but they were both uncommon/scientific type words, unlike SQUAD and SQUAT.  So, somebody alert the Great Bald One to these wondrous findings!  LOL!  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “thcuh” and “robwor” before.  The answer letter layout was a fine nine letter jumble.  Only semi cryptic though.

Nice cartoon of the farmer having a little fun with the kids on a class field trip.  I think I was out sick on the day that my kindergarten – or first grade – class went to Pittsford Farms.  Bummed me out big time!  I like how the little girl’s skirt pattern looks like a cow’s spots!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
