“In order to see birds, it is necessary to become a part of the silence.” —Robert Lynd
(So true! Birds hearing is so sensitive. They take off with the slightest of noises. This appears to be our first quote from the Irish writer. So, we welcome Robert Lynd to the Cryptoquote Club today. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Clue/Question: The kindness of the doctors, nurses, etc. at the medical facility was a form of – – –
Answer: HOSPITALITY
(All we need is for some of the medical equipment to start singing “Be Our Guest”! Hospitals, hostels, hospice and hotel all come from the Latin hospitale, which originally meant lodging for travelers. It only makes sense for hospitals to be hospitable, as pretty much nobody really wants to be there. You’re constantly being poked and prodded, the food is just so-so . . . if you’re lucky, and even if you have a private room you still aren’t going to get much rest . . . because of all the poking and prodding. So, the various medical staff being friendly helps to make your stay bearable. It’s usually hit or miss with doctors. Many of them are kind of aloof. But my wife really appreciated the nurses and their assistants. They were all great to her.
We’ve seen all of today’s clue words, but all of the jumbles appear to be new. They all came to me immediately. The answer letter layout was an elemental eleven letter jumble. I think it would’ve been a little more cryptic, had the clue words been arranged differently. I saw the final answer instantly.
Fine cartoon of the recuperating patient, and the very attentive doctor and nurse. It all looks very familiar to me. Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
