A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.   —   Walter Winchell

(Maybe not politically, but in some ways Walter was the forerunner of Rush Limbaugh.  At some point in time everybody knew their names.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  GET A FIX ON IT

(Fix Or Repair Daily.  Remember that old gag, guys?  Or maybe you’re more familiar with the other backronym:  Found On Road Dead!  I’ve actually only owned one car in the Ford family, and that was a 1973 Mercury Capri, and it was actually a pretty good car!  Four-on-the-floor, with lose throws, and a sporty body.  I bought it used, and likely paid more than I should have, but I just don’t have any haggler in me.  I only owned it for a little over a year, because I moved to NYC.  But I sold it to my little sister, and she used it for a number of years.  Wait a minute.  My girlfriend, who later became my wife, owned a cute little Ford Escort.  And, I thought that was fun to drive.  She traded that in for a Ford Escort wagon that we used that for a few years.  It got the job done, although I preferred the regular Escort.  So, I guess I do have more experience with Fords than I thought!  With all that’s going on, with the supply chain issues and such, I think this is the perfect time to buy American.  We need to temper our reliance on foreign markets, and support our workers and our national economy!

I think I kind of took this Jumble a little off-road!  Oh, well.  All of today’s clue words were made in U.S.A.!  Well, they’re probably originally from England, but . . . close enough.  We’ve seen ’em all before.  Three of the jumbles are coming up as new, for me.  But we’ve definitely been mired in “hlift” before today.  The answer letter layout was an elusive eleven letter jumble.  I thought it was effectively cryptic.  Ironically, in getting the final answer, I saw the word FIX last!

The cartoon shows three guys trying to fasten whatever has come loose, and is causing the rattling sound.  Once they reattach – and secure – that . . . she should be good to go.  When a car is new, I don’t think most of us personify it.  It’s mainly as it gets older that we refer to it as “old girl”, or “old boy”.  At least that has been my experience.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
