Clue/Question: The number of people buying fireworks for the 4th of July celebrations was – – –

Answer: SKYROCKETING
(An excellent, holiday appropriate, stinky pun! Everybody enjoys watching fireworks, but only people with the proper training should be setting them off. They are dangerous as Heck. Emergency rooms always end up with some numb-nuts who thought they knew what they were doing, but ended up blowing off a few fingers, or losing an eye. Of course it doesn’t help when they add alcohol into the mix! Many states make it illegal to buy and set off fireworks, because of these dangers. But, like gambling, lots of states have loosened those laws. You can’t get addicted to fireworks though.
All of today’s clue words have been used before. But it looks like all of the jumbles are new. It took me a couple of looks to see “gyrate”, but the other three came to me immediately. The answer letter layout was a twisty twelve letter jumble. I thought it was admirably cryptic. But the clue/question and the great cartoon made for a quick solve.
Fun cartoon of the fireworks salesman and a lot of customers. Most people love fireworks, but not everyone does. Veterans, and others who’ve been in war zones, can experience PTSD because of the loud explosions, birds and other wildlife can actually die, and a lot of pet dogs really can’t handle them either. Lots of dogs run away, and get injured because of the loud sounds. So, besides personal safety, it’s a good idea to leave these fireworks to the professionals. Have a safe and happy 4th, folks! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
