Clue/Question: The mail was being delivered to California by the Pony Express in 1860 – – –

Answer: “RIDE“ ON TIME
(A little variation on a theme. A few weeks, or so, we had an Answer of “RITE” ON TIME. And, I think we just saw the clue word “modem” a week, or so, ago. Somewhere along the line I believe we’ve seen a Pony Express Jumble, or two. A big part of western folklore, the Pony Express was only in existence for 18 months. When they completed the transcontinental telegraph line, late in 1861, they shut down the Pony Express. As impressive as 10 days, from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California was, it just couldn’t compete with the telegraph. I wonder how many riders were killed by Native Americans and outlaws/bandits?
All popular Jumble clue words today. However, it looks like all of the jumbles have come up as new. None proved to be stumpers, for me. The answer letter layout was a trusty steed of a ten letter jumble. It carried the final answer with tack, ensuring that the final answer wasn’t a cinch.
Great cartoon! Straight outta a 1950’s Western movie. The rider kind of looks like Wild Bill Hickok! I haven’t watched a good old fashioned Western in quite a while. I just looked one up, and I’m watching it on another tab/page. “The Last Outpost” with Ronald Reagan, Rhonda Fleming and Bruce Bennett. And Noah Beery! It looks a little contrived and hoaky, but entertaining enough. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
