“If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.” — Frances Hodgson Burnett
(A lovely sentiment from the woman who brought us “The Secret Garden”. Too many people just want to see the world as something that they have to conquer and tame. Just because something can be taken from it doesn’t mean that it should be taken. Natural resources are not infinite. And, in less than 200 years, we are seeing the effects of our never ending consumption. Wake up and smell the coffee, folks! This appears to be the first quote from Ms. Hodgson Burnett, since I’ve been posting these spoilers. So, we welcome her to the Cryptoquote Club today! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

Happy birthday to Jeremy Clyde of Chad and Jeremy! (Beautiful early-mid ’60s soft rock!)
Clue/Question: The pirate ship on which Blackbeard and his crew sailed was a – – –
Answer: “THUG“BOAT
(A tug boat full of thugs! Very clever. Except that people who work on ships really hate it when you call it a boat. But this definitely works for our Jumble. I remember a few years ago when the Seattle Seahawks’ Corner Back, Richard Sherman, strongly objected to some announcer’s characterization of him being a “thug”. He asserted that it’s an accepted way of calling somebody the N-word now. I couldn’t disagree with him, and I think this proves the inanity of trying to ban certain offensive words. Because there IS always a work around. The word – any word – is harmless, unless it’s specifically said as a racial epithet. We shouldn’t have to say “the N-word”! Because rational people should be allowed to say any word, as long as it’s in the context of an intellectual/legitimate conversation. Obviously, using the word as a racial epithet, to disparage . . . anyone, shouldn’t be condoned. But if someone can get away with using a replacement word: “thug”, and the intent is pretty obvious, what good has it really done to pretend that the original word no longer exists? Avoidance and substitution certainly doesn’t open the lines of communication. I believe it results in just the opposite.
We have seen all of today’s clue words in previous Jumbles. However, it appears that all of their jumbles are coming up as new. None of them stumped me any though. The answer letter layout was a straight eight letter jumble. The final answer wasn’t obvious to me, other than I figured one of the words had to be BOAT. From the remaining HGUT the pun became apparent to me.
Great cartoon of Blackbeard the pirate and his crew, upon the taking of some unfortunate ship. I can make out the jolly roger at the stern of his ship, and the scruffy beards and mustaches. It looks like there is a plank that they make some folks walk. It’s so hard to make out details with this new Gannett format. But there is a tiny classic sinking sailboat on the horizon! Gotta love it! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
