Clue/Question:  The construction of the hydroelectric power plant – – –

Answer:  GENERATED JOBS

(A classic stinky Jumble pun!  Sure, the construction of the ginormous dam generated many, many jobs.  And, it generated plenty of electricity for millions of people, for a good number of years, to this day.  But the vast majority of the jobs ended with the construction’s completion, and today we realize the downfalls of altering rivers’ natural flow.  It seems like every time man comes up with a really great idea we seem to go Uh oh a little down the road.  Many of us thought that electric cars were going to save the planet, because they don’t generate carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.  That part is definitely a major plus, but the stuff in the batteries, that these cars run on, contain such things as lithium, or nickel, cobalt, manganese and other rare metals, that can pollute our water and wreak havoc on the environment.  Like any battery they have a certain lifespan, and you have to find a way to deal with the expired/worn out ones.  The recycling of them isn’t easy, and it has to be done in a way that doesn’t pollute.  The other – less talked about – problem is in the mining of some of these metals.  Nickel is a mineral that is not all that deep in the ground, so to get it they have to strip mine vast areas.  This devastates forests and farmland, changing the topography, and often polluting the ground water.  AND, these electric cars’ batteries can explode and cause terrible fires that are very difficult to extinguish!  Ay yi yi!  To me, it sounds like hybrid cars might be the better way to go, than totally electric.  I’m not sure if their batteries are as big an issue, or not.

No new clue words today.  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen both “pewts” and “lnbued” in previous Jumbles.  I was able to see all the clue words right away.  The answer letter layout was a thrilling thirteen letter jumble.  I got JOBS right away, and from the AGEETNDER the word GENERATED hit me like a bolt of lightning!

Great drawing of what appears to be the construction of the Hoover Dam, on the border of Nevada and Arizona.  It was a massive undertaking, that employed thousands of workers, and cost around 100 lives.  It took about five years to complete, and it’s been in existence for 86 years, providing power and flood control for much of the American southwest.  Today it’s also a major tourist attraction.  So, the next time you visit Las Vegas, take a day trip to see the Hoover Dam.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
