Clue/Question: The ocean’s undulations were making it possible for the surfers to have – – –
Answer: A SWELL TIME
(A totally gnarly stinky pun! It was bitchin’! It was aggro! It was akaw! It was tubular! But in the ocean . . . you can only smell the salty sea air! But if you can ride the waves, without wiping out, it smells like . . . victory! Damn. I’ve already exceeded my daily number of exclamation marks.
The clue words were all wonderful old friends. Three of the jumbles appear to be newcomers, but we’ve definitely seen “nlnie” before. The answer letter layout was a tenacious ten letter word. It had me fooled for a while. Was it A something SWIM? Was it A SWEET something? I broke down, and decided to write out just the vowels, and then the consonants. That helped me to see SWELL. I had a swell time solving this.
Boatloads to like with this cartoon. A cool surfer dude. Some attractive wahines. No jakes. And, some macking waves. Not only that, but way up in the left-hand corner, in-between some waves, a teeny tiny sinking sailboat on the horizon. Classic. I would like to wish all of my readers a Kung Hei Fat Choi, as it is the Lunar New Year today. The year of the Tiger. Best wishes for a prosperous New Year, friends. Be well and do good.) — YUR

Happy birthdays to Patrick Wilson of Weezer, and Jason Isbell! (I’m allowed an extra exclamation mark for birthday greetings.)
