Cryptoquote Spoiler – 01/20/22

Posters for 100th Anniversary of William Saroyan on Behance

If you give to a thief, he cannot steal from you, and he is then no longer a thief.”   —   William Saroyan

(Okay, what’s this semantics B.S.?  Besides, you don’t know someone is a thief until they try to rob you.  And, once you know that you can willingly give what you want to him, but that doesn’t change what he is.  And, if you give to a thief before you know he’s a thief he’ll likely rob you anyway.  And, if you give all to him – either way – you’re left with nothing.  This seems like a namby-pamby kind of quote, to me.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 01/20/22

Boeing 747: Why the jumbo jet was designed with a hump | Stuff.co.nz

Visual Description:  Good Morning Starshine!

MMMOY  =  MOMMY,  SIJTO  =  JOIST,  JCOTBE  =  OBJECT,  BSEUUD  =  SUBDUE   —   Giving us:  MMMJOTOBJUBUE

Clue/Question:  The planes were chatting near the gates.  The nonsensical one was a – – –

Ask the Captain: Do planes have reverse?

Answer:  MUMBO JUMBO JET

(At least he looks calm.  You wouldn’t want to make him angry.  There are many times when it’s just more practical to patronize some folk.  And, there really is no reason to question some things.  Oliver knew this when he wrote “Good Morning Starshine”, just as The Chiffons did when they wrote “He’s So Fine”, and Francis Albert did with “Strangers in the Night”.  Okay, initially many people did question “Doo lang, doo lang, doo lang” and “scooby dooby doo”, but we all kinda learned to roll with it.  Can you kids come up with some other songs with silly lyrics???

As per usual, there were no new clue words today.  However, three of the jumbles have come up as new for me.  But we’ve definitely seen “sijto” some time ago.  I’ve finally gotten used to the fairly obscure word “joist”!  The jumble that took me a few looks was “bseuud”.  But I was able to “subdue” the answer without having to back into it.  The answer letter layout was a thrilling thirteen letter jumble.  But when I saw the bulbous dome of the 747 the word JUMBO jumped out at me!  So, that made for a quick solve.  Apparently, the word mumbo is not recognized in the U.K., as WordPress seems to think it’s an error.  They must not use the phrase mumbo-jumbo, as even combined they think it’s an error!  Bollocks, I say!

Cute cartoon of animated aeroplanes.  They all appear to be jets.  Is the 747 a jumbo jet, or a Jumble jet?  Maybe our guys are rich enough to own their own 747.  Kinda like John Travolta.  I’m not sure I’d care to fly on a jet piloted by Vinnie Barbarino!  “There’s the runway, Captain.  What?  The runway.  It’s time to land the plane!  Where?  Right down there!  Oh, yeah.”  Not a real confidence builder.  Fun Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
