Schlitze was born in Yucatan, Mexico in 1881. His real name was Simon Metz, and his sister was also a pinhead.… | Human oddities, Creepy carnival, Famous americans

Every library should try to be complete on something, if it were only the history of pinheads.”   —   Oliver W. Holmes Jr.

(I’m going to guess that he was referring to the sideshow geeks, and not the actual heads of pins!  My newspaper screwed up this Cryptoquote . . . too!  They’re supposed to be double spaced, so you can write in the correct letters easily.  But my paper decided to single space it.  Ugh!  Hopefully, they’ll get it right next Sunday.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Sunday Jumble Spoiler – 01/16/22

Palisades Interstate Park: The Complete Guide

Visual Description:  Peeking from the peak.

DYOITD  =  ODDITY,  YOPOKS  =  SPOOKY,  RIMOFN  =  INFORM,  TUORPO  =  UPROOT,  LOOERI  =  ORIOLE,  OMEEVR  =  REMOVE   —   Giving us:  OTOKINFUOTOLRO

Clue/Question:  The hikers found the mountaintop scenic view area after being – – –

Pre-Answer:  Five Words  (2-letters)  THE  (7-letters)  (3-letters)  (2-letters)

The Palisades cliffs, a natural monument in New Jersey

Answer:  ON THE LOOKOUT FOR IT

(Loooking goood!  Who used to say that?  Somebody Latino, I’m pretty sure.  It was a long time ago.  Maybe it was Cheech Marin?  Maybe it was from an old SNL skit?  Does it ring any bells with any of you guys?  As you drive up the Palisades Interstate Parkway, from NYC – well, actually from Fort Lee, NJ – there are a couple of scenic overlooks that you can stop at.  The Palisades rise to a height of 540 feet on the west side of the Hudson River, giving people a great view.  The PIP is a very scenic drive.  You wouldn’t believe you’re only a couple of miles from one of the most populous cities in the world.  At least early on.  It runs 38.25 miles, up to the Bear Mountain Bridge.

No surprises on the clue word scene!  They’re all members of the ralis95 clue word database.  However, every one of the jumbles came up as new, for me.  I had to skip over “tuorpo”, and come back to it.  I saw the other five right off the bat though.  We had “oddity” last Sunday!  If David L. Hoyt is on the lookout for a “new” five-letter clue word he should use SPOOK.  It’s NOT on the list.  The answer letter layout was a forceful fourteen letter jumble.  I found nothing obvious about it.  The clue/question, and the great cartoon, set up the final answer very nicely.

Great cartoon of the scenic overlook.  It looks like they’re pretty high up there.  There seems to be a winding river down below.  Lots of fun!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
