Visual Description: The deadline.
RBUYL = BURLY, SHCUR = CRUSH, DMIEDL = MIDDLE, VLARGE = GRAVEL — Giving us: BLCRSMDAE
Clue/Question: The deadline for the Jumble puzzle was fast approaching, so the creators – – –
Answer: SCRAMBLED
(That David L. Hoyt and Jeffrey Q. Knurek. They’re virtually puzzle gods! They are . . . the creators! But none of this seven day stuff for them. No, they are creating puzzles, for the masses, nearly every single day! The only rest they get is when the guest cartoonists take over. Other than that, these boys are chained to their desks! So, you folks better appreciate their efforts.
All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends. Three of the jumbles appear to be new. However, we’ve definitely seen “vlarge” before. My only – recurring – question was: does GRAVEL end in LE or EL? When I noticed that the first three clue words had given us only consonants I figured it had to be EL. The answer letter layout was a nifty nine letter jumble. But I could guess the final answer from the clue/question alone.
Great cartoon of the guys at their office. I think this is the first time we’ve seen their editor/boss. I see that they have a very relaxed dress code at work. I always enjoy seeing the boys in these Jumbles, especially with their pooches. I hope the guys are finished by closing time. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
