Cryptoquote Spoiler – 11/18/21

John McGrath on Twitter: "Would you like to work in Aarhus on psychiatric epidemiology? The Niels Bohr Professorship is advertising for a post-doctoral scientist. @GrundforskFond We have a great team of researchers

Your theory is crazy, but it’s not crazy enough to be true.”   —   Niels Bohr

(So, the crazier a theory is . . . the truer it’s going to be???  Hmm.  I’d like to know the context of this quote.  Who was he saying it to, and why?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 11/18/21

Amazon.com: Rip Haywire and the Scorpions Sting! eBook : Thompson, Dan: Kindle Store

Visual Description:  Sleepenwolf???

NKATE  =  TAKEN,  NIREL  =  LINER,  DMYOEC  =  COMEDY,  EBBBLO  =  BOBBLE   —   Giving us:  TENLIROMDOBB

Clue/Question:  This dog prefers a good nap instead of adventure.  He was – – –

All 9 Chickweed Lane Rip Haywire Comics - GoComics

Answer:  BORN TO BE MILD

(Looks a little like my Wally boy!  Snores like him too.  Yeah, Wally is chubby and he likes to sleep a lot.  But he’s a good boy.  Very loyal, to me.  Downright dependent.  Sometimes he won’t even eat if I’m not in the room.  And, believe me, Wally loves to eat!  I think he thinks that we’re all dogs, and I’m the leader of the pack.  He loves my wife and daughter, but he won’t go to them unless I say:  Go to your mommy!  or Go to your sister!  And, you should hear the histrionics when we come home after leaving him for a couple of hours.  Silly dog.

All of today’s clue words have been previously entered on the world famous ralis95 clue word database.  However, it looks like every one of the jumbles is new.  I got them all very quickly.  The answer letter layout was a tremendous twelve letter jumble.  I thought it was beautifully cryptic.  But I saw the final answer immediately regardless.

Fun cartoon from today’s guest Jumbler, Dan Thompson.  I’m not familiar with RIP HAYWIRE, but it looks sorta like a send up to Buzz Sawyer, Steve Canyon, or Terry and the Pirates.  Or, maybe even The Phantom, or . . . Clutch Cargo!  I always enjoyed those silly adventure strips.  The ultimate though – and I know it’s semi historical – is Prince Valiant.  My Mom got me into that strip when I was a kid.  Her birthday was just the other day.  She would have turned 88.  Great Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Curtis' Creator and SVA Alumnus Ray Billingsley on His Career, His Influences and Representation in Comics - SVA

Visual Description:  Curtis’ cravings.

DESEU  =  SUEDE,  KHYSA  =  SHAKY,  IHSTTR  =  THIRST,  GEEERM  =  EMERGE   —   Giving us:  SDSAKTISMEE

Clue/Question:  When Curtis thought twice about not getting a roast beef sandwich, he knew it was a – – –

Curtis (Comic Strip) - TV Tropes

Answer:  MISSED STEAK

(I like it!  It’s a good corny pun.  Not corned beef.  Just corny.  I also like the comic strip “Curtis”.  It’s probably in my top five of comics!  I especially like the story lines that revolve around him hanging out at Gunther’s barber shop, and the Sunday ones where he makes comments on all the women’s flamboyant hats at church.  He’s always getting in some kind of trouble at school.  Not bad trouble, just getting caught reading comic books in class, and stuff like that.

There were no new clue words today.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “GEEERM” before, and not all that long ago.  I didn’t struggle to get any of them though.  The answer letter layout was an elastic eleven letter jumble.  I thought there was nothing obvious about it, but I can see some folks struggling to get the final answer.

It looks like Curtis is eating a . . . hotdog?!?! He’s usually more about pizza, burgers and chicken, but I guess a hotdog works.  The drawing is a little unusual.  He seems older than the Curtis in the comics.  And, his usually oversized – and sideways – hat is kinda on the small side.  But still, I knew him in an instant!  Lot’s of fun.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
