“A maxim is the exact and noble expression of an important and unquestionable truth.” —Joubert
(And, we’ve got plenty of maxims. But I like the pictured quote better. It’s a main reason why I dislike “cancel culture”. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

Clue/Question: The soccer player’s new contact lenses gave her a better – – –
Answer: FIELD OF VISION
(Yer uncle wore contact lenses, for a time, when he was a young man living in NYC. They were soft contacts, but they weren’t all that comfortable for me. The doctor told me that blue eyes are a little more sensitive than brown eyes. I didn’t like the process of disinfecting them either. You had to rub them between your thumb and finger with one solution for a while, then kind of cook them in another solution. I hear the new ones are much more comfortable, and I think disposable, but I’ve been off the market for nearly 35 years, so why bother!
All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends. Only one of the jumbles is coming up as new, as we’ve definitely seen “lalfi”, “nhiys” and “vieedc” in previous Jumbles. It took me a couple of looks to see “flail”. The others were automatic. The answer letter layout was an unexpectedly long thirteen letter jumble. It was sufficiently cryptic, but I also saw the final answer right away.
Great girls soccer cartoon. They look like high school kids. Yesterday, my one grandson in Hawaii scored three goals! And, a week before that my grandson in Colorado pitched a No-Hitter, striking out eleven! Great start to the week. Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
