Clue/Question:  The cost to use the facility’s new rock-climbing walls seemed – – –

Vertical Endeavors Duluth- Indoor Rock Climbing | Explore Minnesota

(Definitely pricey!  This must be in the city.  Those young upwardly-mobile professional types just love wasting their money on this kind of thing.  I think you’re much better off going to one of those axe throwing places.  Some of them charge about $25 an hour, and it’s a great way to work out your frustrations.  You can put up a picture of your boss.  Thwack!  Or, a picture of your ex-spouse.  Thwack!  Or, a picture of just about anyone who has pissed you off.  Thwack!    Aahhh!

All of today’s clue words already reside on the ralis95 clue word database.  However, all of today’s jumbles are coming up as new, for me.  They all came to me pretty quickly.  The answer letter layout was a tremendous twelve letter jumble.  A lovely ascent.

Great cartoon of an indoor rock-climbing facility.  I wonder if they offer a discount if you forgo the safety cable?  You’d have to sign a waiver, I’m sure.  This is mainly for fit people, right?  Do the chunkier folk partake of indoor rock-climbing?  Hmm.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I think a heavier person might have to WEIGHT to go up with an instructor…🤦🏻‍♀️

  2. 2 unclerave September 16, 2021 at 8:17 pm

LOL! I know tandem skydiving has weight limits. I’d think the same might be true of rock-climbing instructors. — YUR

LOL! Skydiving, Rock climbing…Gimme a break! My vertigo’s rearing it’s ugly head just thinking about it. I have enough trouble balancing myself on my 5 inch heels! 👠🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. 4 LindaLee September 17, 2021 at 9:32 am

I cannot see me doing that. Never thought about weight restrictions, but would make sense. 🤔 LL

    UR & Angela,

From 3/76 – 9/79 the Italian families were at a minimum but they were there!*…Am speaking of the Van Siclen & Fulton St. area…my favorite all-time pizza joint was on the corner of the above mentioned streets…I forgit the names of the owners but they were down home Italians…great people and tough as nails…as far as I know, nobody ever tried to rip them off*…
Maybe somebody out there knows of them??…

    My first abode was right on Van Siclen, very near Fulton St….This may be hard to believe, but on the street, during decent weather, in the daytime, almost all the windows and doors^ were open and I can still here the mothers, kids and families yelling back and forth with Italian & Spanish music playing while I sang out of my window to the Bee Gees!!£{they mostly put-up with this Polish Seaman♡}
(…If I could change my mind, go back in time, I’d…….)

My wife’s family still considers me a half-as New Yorker (never a full one but I made it over 3 yrs. Ha Ha♤)

Sometimes the so called “little things” are the are truly the greatest joy…Yep…….k

FIVE inch??? Let me guess, you’re 4’11”? — YUR

  9. 9 Angela September 17, 2021 at 9:41 pm

4’11”? Egads! I come in between 5’5”” and 5’6”…depending how straight I’m standing that day! 😉👠🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. 10 unclerave September 17, 2021 at 9:45 pm

LOL! Then you wouldn’t be needing 5 inch heels! — YUR

  11. 11 Angela September 17, 2021 at 9:46 pm

I guess you’d know better than me, Ken. It’s not something I paid much attention to. My Father’s family were from ENY. Hinsdale Street and Livonia Avenue. 🙋🏻‍♀️

  12. 12 Angela September 17, 2021 at 9:47 pm

    UR…EVERY woman needs 5 inch heels! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

  13. 13 unclerave September 17, 2021 at 10:42 pm

My wife’s bunions would beg to differ! And, I don’t think she ever wore FIVE inch heels. Three or four tops.

Congratulations on the 3 years in New York, Ken; hang in there.

I’ve been to New York City once, maybe 40 years ago. I don’t think I could live there. I can’t imagine it’s changed that much !

    Has it ?

Angela wrote: “EVERY woman needs 5 inch heels!”

If Angela’s only 4’11”, why would she wear 5″ heels ?

She’ll get vertigo, hypoxia, and hypothermia ! 🙂

    Angela, what’s ENY ? 😕

  18. 18 unclerave September 22, 2021 at 11:39 am

If you were following the conversation, you should have reasoned that ENY is shorthand for East New York, lwc. — YUR

    lwc… Check above. It’s 5’6” 👠🙋🏻‍♀️

  21. 21 unclerave September 22, 2021 at 12:25 pm

Manhattan has been both gentrified and Disney-fied! So, yeah. New York City has changed since 40 years ago, lwc.

  22. 22 LindaLee September 22, 2021 at 9:47 pm

I did not get that EYN was East New York!!

  23. 23 unclerave September 22, 2021 at 10:26 pm

It’s ENY, LindaLee. (Not EYN.) Have you been following the entire convo, LL? I know you’ve got a lot going on in your life, and very often you’re playing catch up on the spoilers. FWIW, I don’t think it’s any kind of official acronym for East New York. But Angela is a native New Yorker, whose father came from East New York. It made perfect sense to me, even if I’d never specifically heard it before. — YUR

  24. 24 Angela September 22, 2021 at 10:53 pm

Yes, ENY is simply the abbreviation of East New York. 🙋🏻‍♀️

    Sorry, Angela ! I didn’t mean to “shorten” you ! 😦

LindaLee wrote: “I did not get that EYN was East New York!!”

    Neither did I LindaLee !

But, I don’t think anyone West to the Hudson River would have gotten that.

But, they’re New Yorkers; so, rather than start trouble, I’m going to leave it alone and mind my business !

  27. 27 Angela September 23, 2021 at 10:34 am

LOL! No harm, no foul, lwc. It’s all good. Enjoy your day! 👠🙋🏻‍♀️

  28. 28 unclerave September 23, 2021 at 10:45 am

And yet we – New Yorkers? – know what DFW stands for. (Even without any prior discussion!) I actually hate reading an article that casually uses an acronym without ANY explanation! But if it’s spelled out earlier in the article, and later used as an acronym, I can handle it. I remember reading an article in the Sports pages once, where the author kept using JUCO, with absolutely NO explanation! I was forced to Google it, and found out it’s shorthand for Junior College, which I guess is a two year institution, like a Community College. Crazy, huh? — YUR

  29. 29 Angela September 23, 2021 at 12:29 pm

“They’re New Yorkers”?? …Well bless your heart! 🙋🏻‍♀️

  30. 30 LindaLee September 23, 2021 at 9:26 pm

I am a bit dyslectic, and I did read through the thread…didn’t glean the ENY thing. Guess I live too far away. Thanks for trying Unc.

  31. 31 unclerave September 24, 2021 at 1:18 pm

There are plenty of types of intelligence in this world, LL. None are necessarily better than another. When I see a back and forth discussion . . . about any place . . . it doesn’t surprise/puzzle me when one of the parties decides to resort to the place’s initials. Because by then the name of the place is kind of ingrained – somewhere – in my brain.

I don’t always have a lot of patience for lwc, and I should probably work on that. — YUR

  32. 32 lwc September 24, 2021 at 5:24 pm

Unc mentioned “JUCO” and “community college” !

I’d never seen JUCO used for junior college, but maybe it’s something new.

However, I thought “community college” and “junior college” were the same thing. Is this something else I didn’t know. If I keep reading your column I might find out how uneducated I really am ! 😦

    Gee Unc,

Now my feelings are hurt ! 😦

  34. 34 unclerave September 24, 2021 at 8:45 pm

I’d never even heard anyone say “junior college” before, lwc! As far as I know it’s the same as “community college”. But JUCO, all by itself, was a little much. — YUR

  35. 35 lwc September 24, 2021 at 10:03 pm

I think “junior college” must be a southern expression while other areas say “community college”.

  36. 36 unclerave September 25, 2021 at 2:23 pm

Could be, lwc. But I was seeing it in a northern newspaper. I think younger people just like to throw around acronyms. And, a lot of them don’t even bother questioning the acronyms. I remember asking my son’s girlfriend what O.A.R. stood for. (It’s a band.) She said: “I don’t know. That’s just their name.” I just shook my head. (Or SMH)
