Stay away from negative people, they have a problem for every solution.”   —   Albert Einstein

Budgeting For Couples: How To Budget As A Couple | Clever Girl Finance

Visual Description:  Shedding the “monkey”.

LNIFG  =  FLING,  RXYOP  =  PROXY,  DCATHE  =  DETACH,  DFIELD  =  FIDDLE   —   Giving us:  FPODAFI

Clue/Question:  They worked hard to get all their credit card balances down to zero, and it – – –

Couple Paying Bills Online | Couple paying bills online with… | Flickr

Answer:  PAID OFF

(Phew!  What a relief!  Credit card debt can be crippling.  I thought that some controls were put in place, back during Obama’s terms, that said they couldn’t charge such ridiculous rates.  And, I thought there was a cap on late payment fees.  I get offers all the time, where the teaser is 0% for the first 12-18 months, but then after that it’s 22.9, 23.9, and 24.9%!  Are they kidding us???  That is USURY!  The banks can borrow money from the Fed at 0.25%!  That is one quarter of one percent!  If you deposit money with them – in a checking account – you might get from 0.10% up to 0.25%.  Some online only banks pay somewhat better, 1.01%, but they don’t offer credit cards.  There is no way to quantify the disparity from the rate the banks borrow money versus what they charge their customers via their credit cards.  It is positively criminal.  But we all just seem to accept it.  What a bunch of freaking sheep we are.

No new clue words today.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve surely seen “rxyop” before.  I was able to see all the clue words immediately this morning.  The answer letter layout was a satisfactory seven letter jumble.  Kinda tough to make a two word, seven letter, answer challenging.  I’m sure that most of us got it nearly instantly.

I like how the guy looks like he’s in a white tee-shirt and boxer shorts!  Could be me!  And, how the wife is doing the online bill paying on her Pineapple laptop!  Yer uncle still feels more comfortable using the traditional keyboard and a full size monitor, that I can easily read!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Who Was Catherine the Great? - Catherine the Great True Story

A great wind is blowing, and that gives you either imagination or a headache.”   —   Catherine The Great

(It looks like our Cryptoquote friends and our Jumble friends were on the same page today!  Well, okay, they’re usually – literally – on the same page anyway.  But they’re both about big winds!  Catherine was a tough cookie, and she ruled Russia for 34 years.  She admired Peter The Great, and she did a lot to modernize Russia.  She was also a big patron – matron? – of the Arts.  And, yes, she did have a lot of lovers.  Good for her!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Ever Play Hurricane Golf? – intothegrain.com

Answer:  BLOWN OFF COURSE

(Very good stinky pun!  Sports Jumbles are always some of my favorites.  All of today’s clue words were pretty much old reliables, so I was able to get them right away.  Five of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “sflsio” before.  The answer letter layout was a strong fourteen letter jumble.  Without the great cartoon, its dialog, the clue/question, and the final answer slots, this might have been a tough solve.  But as it is, it was pretty simple.  No complaints.  Shouldn’t try to play golf during a hurricane!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Robert M. Hensel (@wheelierecord) | Twitter

No disability or dictionary out there is capable of clearly defining who we are as a person.”   —   Robert M. Hensel

(This guy is no “Woe is me!” kinda guy.  He hasn’t let his “disability” define him whatsoever.  He is showing the world what can be done with the right attitude.  I couldn’t decide if the F was J,K or M, so I had to Google him.  This is – hopefully – the first of many quotes from Robert, as we welcome him to the Cryptoquote Club today!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Seamstress: What Is It? and How to Become One?

Answer:  TOP SELLERS

(Gee.  I wonder how long before they cancel the word “seamstress”?!?!  It could go the way of “actress”, as now there is a huge push to refer to all performers/emoters as ACTORS.  Will they go with “seamsters”??  Hmm.  Might be confused with teamsters.  SeamsX???  Maybe they’ll scrap the word entirely, and go with the much fancier couturière.  Although that is feminine also.  All the romance languages are pretty gender specific, but you don’t really hear the call for gender neutrality from the French, Italian, or Spanish.  Is it an overall English mania, or is it specific to the United States?  Do the Canucks and Limeys get their knickers in a twist over this stuff?  I’d like to think that they’re having a nice little chuckle at our expense.  It seems to me that my liberal brethren have become exceeding dogmatic these days.  That does not suit my mindset.  I guess they’ll just have to call me a cafeteria liberal!

We’ve seen all of today’s clue words before.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve seen “rogof” without question, via earlier Jumbles.  None of them gave me any trouble this morning.  The answer letter layout was a tidy ten letter jumble.  By itself not obvious.  The final answer slots were the big clue for me.

Fine cartoon.  I like the sewing machines in the background.  Why do women’s clothing button the opposite way of men’s?  Now THAT seams a little pointless to me!  If THAT were to go away you wouldn’t hear a peep outta me.  As long as they all button the way I’m used to!  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

CollTales

I Am Because You Are, Colltalers

As Haiti is set to bury assassinated President Jovenel Moïse while First Lady Martine, wounded in the attack, greets Haitians, the first 500K Covid shots arrived in the 11 million-plus nation. In Cuba, the westward island next door, dueling pro and anti-government rallies all call for a lift of U.S. sanctions.
The dream of a post-apartheid South Africa’s at risk for widespread unrest, looting, and killing of civilians, triggered by ex-President Zuma’s refusal to testify at a corruption probe. And in the front of new threats, humanity has just acquired a newer one: the Amazon Rainforest now emits more CO2 than it absorbs.
We begin with the virus that came to dine on us, Covid, and the one crucial reason for Haiti and other developing nations to have had almost no access to vaccines: Big Pharma’s monopoly over drug patents, many acquired after the…

Clue/Question:  When the architect asked them if they wanted oak floors, they said they – – –

Durable Hardwood Floors | Hardwood Flooring

Answer:  WOOD LOVE IT

(And, why “wood”n’t they?  Hardwood floors have been very poplar for a number of years.  They certainly look spruce and spiffy!  I suppose they might even be ash-light bit cooler in the summer months.  But, it seems like wall-to-wall carpeting might keep the house somewhat cherry-er in the winter months.  That’s my cri-teak at least.  Anyone have any other chestnut to add?

None of today’s clue words were missing from the ralis95 clue word database.  All four jumbles were coming up as new for me though.  All decently challenging.  The answer letter layout was a polished ten letter jumble.  A fine-grained jumble, indeed.  Of coarse the quotation marks cured me, and clued me, into WOOD.  I’m not that dense.

Fine cartoon of a couple working with the architect, who’s laid out the blueprints/schematics.  Great Friday Jumble!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The friend who holds your hand and says the wrong thing is made of dearer stuff than the one who stays away.”   —   Barbara Kingsolver
