The Complete 7-Step Process for Asphalt Pavement Installation

Answer:  ROAD TO RECOVERY

(Tar-nation!  That’s a good smelling, stinky pun!  Who doesn’t enjoy the smell of freshly laid asphalt?  Commies!!!  That’s who!  Un-American types.  Probably Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong-un . . . and pitch men like that.  We don’t want their kind reading the Jumble anyway.

All of today’s clue words were familiar old friends.  However,  all of the jumbles are coming up as new, for me.  But I saw them all right away.   The answer letter layout made for a terrific twelve letter jumble.  I found it delightfully cryptic!  But the whole hospital setting made for a quick solve.

Fun cartoon of workmen laying down blacktop.  Great dump truck, and a good looking steamroller.  Looks like they have things covered.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Douglas Adams (1952-2001) - Find A Grave Memorial

I’d take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.”   —   Douglas Adams

(Sure.  It’s always great when you understand the how and why, but so many things that you don’t understand can be just as awesome.  Remember childlike innocence?  Uncomplicated awe.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Is Vienna Sausage Keto? | Sure Keto - The Food Database For Keto

Answer:  SHUFFLED IN

(Smells like Ben Gay . . . and Vienna sausages.  My grandfather was of German descent, so I think he ate a lot of Vienna sausages.  My grandparents’ house always smelled like those things.  I think my Grampa liked them with beer.  I believe his beer of choice was Ballantine Ale.  My Dad would bring us there when we were young.  Grampa never really cared much for kids, but Gramma was awesome!  She made a great apple kuchen!  Sometimes we would just eat peanut butter on saltines.  Simple pleasures can house the greatest memories.

No spring chicken clue words today.  They’re all as old as the hills.  Two of the jumbles came up as new, but we’ve seen “siyfet” and especially “sudeo” before.  That just may be Hoyt’s favorite jumble!  I don’t think any of them were all that tough.  The answer letter layout was a tense ten letter jumble.  Beautifully scrambled.

Cards gotta be shuffled, and old folks tend to shuffle.  Is that because it’s easier than picking up your feet?  Or, is it out of an abundance of caution?  I know that balance can be an issue for the elderly.  C’mon old timers!  Chime in.  Is it one or the other, or a combination of the two?  I’ll be waiting for your words of wisdom.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Zibechi on Eduardo Galeano | Chiapas Support Committee

We are all mortal until the first kiss and the second glass of wine.”   —   Eduardo Galeano

(I definitely would have liked talking to Eduardo!  Falling in love, and getting tipsy-drunk, usually take us out of our right minds, and make all the dumbest ideas sound so smart.  I once worked with a guy from Uruguay.  Or, maybe it was Paraguay.  It’s been a while, folks.  And, of course I’ve forgotten his name.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

What Are the Sinuses? Pictures of Nasal Cavities

Visual Description:  A nose by any other name would smell as . . .

GTURN  =  GRUNT,  NYUTI  =  UNITY,  YRSPYU  =  SYRUPY,  SULSEN  =  UNLES  —   Giving us:  GUUISPNS

Clue/Question:  There was a nasal passages seminar, so the medical students said – – –

Sinus & Sinusitis | Dr Gan ENT Specialist Singapore

Answer:  SIGN US UP

(I don’t know if it was just my newspaper, but normally – I would think, at least – the first two words of today’s final answer would be one word, with quotation marks around it, and a hyphen between SIGN and US!  Were the boys trying to be a little less obvious today?  Maybe, because it’s only eight letters long?  It just rang as a little strange to me.

All of today’s clue words already reside on the ralis95 clue word database.  We have seen “gturn” sometime before, but the other three jumbles came up as new, for me.  I was able to see them all immediately.  Even “unless” didn’t trip me up.  And, I’ve mentioned a few times that I think UN words are a little cheesy.  The answer letter layout was an enigmatic eight letter jumble.  I mean the setup was pretty obvious, but the jumble wasn’t.

Cute cartoon of the med students signing up for the “Know Your Nose” seminar!  I don’t think I want to know why Jeff chose Dr. Green!  Sinus problems can be a real pain.  I’ve only experienced them a few times, while flying.  I definitely don’t envy those poor folks with chronic sinus issues!  Great Jumble though.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Who Is the Architect of the Most Famous Memorial in DC?

I try to give people a different way of looking at their surroundings.  That’s art to me.”   —   Maya Lin

(Maya is very interested in environmental issues.  And, that’s cool by me.  The little lady from Athens, Ohio is a pretty big deal!  She’s designed many memorials, buildings, sculptures and landscapes.  This quote made for a fairly easy solve though.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Day Hike Landmannalaugar | Earth Trekkers

Visual Description:  Two for the trek.

LGEIA  =  AGILE,  HKATN  =  THANK,  MLIPEP  =  PIMPLE,  WSORYD  =  DROWSY   —   Giving us:  ALTHAPIPRSY

Clue/Question:  When the hikers headed out into the national forest, the forest ranger said – – –

Casper Mountain Trails | Hiking, Biking & Snow Shoeing

Answer:  HAPPY TRAILS

(Oh.  THAT old gag!  It’s been a while since the boys dragged out this old chestnut.  Surely, they jest.  No.  They don’t.  And don’t call the boys Shirley!  One of the best lines from “Airplane”!  I always liked the:  “What do you make of this?” gag, with the control tower guy, who’s clearly gay, making a bow and a hat, etc., etc.  The same guy causes a brief blackout, but puts the plug back in the socket and says:  “Just kidding!”  Great stuff!  Makes me want to watch the movie!  What’s this got to do with folks hiking a mountain trail?  I dunno.  I just like to go a little off sometimes.

No new clue words today.  It turns out that “manure” from Friday, June 18th’s Jumble wasn’t really a new word.  We’d had it once before, but it happened on a Sunday, July 7, 2019.  So, it never found its way to the ralis95 clue word database.  I’m sure that it will be on the next edition’s.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new.  But we’ve seen “lgeia” at some point in time.  The answer letter layout was an elusive eleven letter jumble . . . sorta.  With the final answer slots I got it right away.

Nice park ranger cartoon, with some inside gags on the sign.  They mean something to David and Jeff.  To me and you?  Meh!  I hope these hikers stay properly hydrated.  That’s usually a concern the higher up you go.  Fun Jumble!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Hollande pays tribute to Nobel winning holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel

Once you bring life into the world, you must protect it.  We must protect it by changing the world.”   —   Elie Wiesel

(A simple Cryptoquote to start the week!  How can we change a world that seems to be increasingly hateful and polarized?  We can try to counter all the negativity with love and understanding, but when the various haters, and guilt mongers get under our skin we’re more likely to react in kind.  So, it becomes a vicious cycle.  We all need to check our emotions, and try to reconcile with those who we find offensive.  Always making demands, and shaming people into insincere apologies, is only making matters worse.  Wake up, people!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Why go to an orthopedic doctor for back pain? | Orthopedics Associates

Visual Description:  Sick . . . and Tired of Waiting For You!

EBBIR  =  BRIBE,  VECTO  =  COVET,  MEDYAR  =  DREAMY,  LUCONK  =  UNLOC  —   Giving us:  BRECODRANOK

Clue/Question:  The brace that the doctor prescribed to ease his spinal pressure was – – –

Causes of Low Back Pain | Lumbar Disc | UPMC HealthBeat

Answer:  ON BACK ORDER

(Ooh, I hate when that happens!  I’ve been in this guy’s shoes before, many times.  I first injured my back when I was only 18.  And, I had to have a lumbar laminectomy to correct a herniated and torn disk, when I was 19.  Ever since then I’ve had recurring bouts of back pain, and even worse sciatica!  That pesky slipped disk keeps reminding me just how human I am.  After the last bout of PT it has slipped back into place, and I’ve been mainly pain free.  Knock on wood!

No new clue words today.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, however we have seen “vecto” before.  The only one to slow me down was “medyar”.  I was kind of looking for it to be a three syllable word.  But I didn’t have to skip it or anything.  The answer letter layout was an elaborate eleven letter jumble.  It obscured the final answer very well.

Fine doctor’s office – reception area – cartoon.  The poor suffering guy, holding his back, and the message on computer screen made for a pretty quick solve.  Hopefully, he won’t be waiting “Day After Day”, because I’m certain that he is so “Tired of Waiting . . .For You”!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
