Cryptoquote Spoiler – 06/07/21

Herbert Spencer and the Survival of the Fittest | Science | Smithsonian Magazine

Time:  that which man is always trying to kill, but which ends in killing him.”   —   Herbert Spencer

(A very clever quote from the renowned philosopher, biologist, sociologist and anthropologist, who also gave us the phrase:  “survival of the fittest”!  Maybe not popular in certain circles, but I will always appreciate a man of science.  I thought he might be new to the Cryptoquote, but apparently we’ve seen him before.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Happy birthday to both Erec Kretz of Stone Temple Pilots, and Gordon Gano of The Violent Femmes.  Two great ’90s bands!

Jumble Spoiler – 06/07/21

The Magilla Gorilla Show" Come Blow Your Dough (TV Episode 1964) - IMDb

Visual Description:  Beasts on the boardwalk!

MZGIO  =  GIZMO,  CIGIN  =  ICING,  OBNERK  =  BROKEN,  NORLEG  =  LONGER   —   Giving us:  GIIIBKN

Clue/Question:  When King Kong and his wife went to the beach, Mrs. Kong wore a – – –

Actress Fay Wray (1907-2004) : Colorization

Answer:  BIGKINI

(‘Cause she’s a big woman!  Well, female ape actually.  But . . . Mrs. Kong has got it going on!  I guess it’s true what they say:  “It’s good to be the king!”  I wouldn’t be surprised if this Jumble pun idea was submitted by a fan.  And, their version – no doubt – rhymed Kong with . . . THONG!  But, seeing as this is a family puzzle/cartoon there was no way the guys were going to try and sneak that one by.  I wonder if the guys have a secret blue file?  You know, just for kicks-and-giggles.

All old favorite clue words today.  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen both “cigin” and “norleg” in Jumbles gone by.  I didn’t think that any of them were tough this morning.  The answer letter layout was a scant seven letter jumble.  Sufficiently cryptic.  All the I’s and the cartoon were the big hints.

Great cartoon of the very friendly looking Mr. and Mrs. Kong.  Jeff must have been inspire by “Magilla Gorilla”, and “The Great Grape Ape Show”.  I don’t remember either one of them having a wife, or even a girlfriend.  Magilla did have Ogee, but she was just a little girl, and she was his owner.  I don’t remember a wife of Kong though either.  I think he swore off women after Fay Wray.  And, who could blame him?  As always, I’m digging the classic sinking sailboat on the horizon.

For music today I’m giving you a bit of cats and dogs!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
