“All human wisdom is summed up in two words; wait and hope.” —Alexandre Dumas
(I know that his name should put me in mind of “The Three Musketeers” and “The Count of Monte Cristo”, but my pea brain always goes to that commercial where the smarmy punk, who thinks he’s just nailed his interview, asks the interviewer: So, what do you think, Mr. Dumb-ass? And the older gent – with veto power – simply replies: It’s pronounced Du-mah. That commercial always cracked me up! But I don’t recall what it was for. Does anyone remember it? Clue/Question: The pitcher had led the team in wins and strikeouts until he was – – –
Answer: OVERTHROWN
(I’m just looking at my printout of the Jumble – my newspaper wasn’t delivered AGAIN today – and I just noticed that I wrote down the answer as THROWNOVER. But, in typing up this spoiler I typed in the correct answer! Very strange, indeed. Unfortunately, this happens to all the greats. The pitching thing, not my screw up. Over time the human arm is going to lose strength, resulting in a reduction of speed/power. The smarter pitchers prolong their careers by relying more on guile, than power. But time eventually takes its toll even on the smart ones. The young flame throwers will have their days in the sun, and they pray that their careers will last as long as the wily veterans.
All of today’s clue words are already on the ralis95 clue word database. Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve undoubtedly seen “lihew” before. I was able to get them all immediately. The answer letter layout was a tidy ten letter jumble. Not obvious at all. But I saw THROWN first and then OVER, which I guess led me to THROWNOVER.
Fine clubhouse/locker-room scene cartoon. I liked the obligatory boombox on the locker shelf. The older pitcher has a little Goose Gossage going on! Today’s Jumble would’ve paired nicely with yesterday’s Cryptoquote. You kids should try to coordinate these things! LOL! Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
