Answer:  STEP DOWN

(Ah, the ups and downs of life!  There are times when we ascend in life, but eventually we all descend into retirement.  Hopefully, it’s a gradual and smooth decent, and not a steep and rapid decline.  We should all be able to enjoy our golden years.

All good old Jumble clue words today.  Two of the jumbles appear to be newbies.  However, we’ve seen both “phedt” and “punti” in days gone by.  I had a little trouble coming up with “pigeon”, because “gopine” is a fantastic jumble!  The answer letter layout  was a sedate eight letter jumble.  On its own it was sufficiently cryptic.  But with the final answer slots being for two four letter words – with two lonely vowels, the cartoon woman saying how he “rose”, and the guy coming down the stairs, all made for a swift resolution.

Fine cartoon of a staircase company!  I happen to have a neighbor who runs a staircase company.  They’re good neighbors.  They like my Wally, even though they are cat people.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Nelson Mandela | Biography, Life, Death, & Facts | Britannica

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”   —   Nelson Mandela

(I’m pretty sure we’ve had this exact quote before.  It’s a popular theme that others have used in the past.  But it’s a positive saying of hope and perseverance, from someone who lived it.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
