Thomas Paine statue in thetford - Picture of The Thomas Paine Hotel, Thetford - Tripadvisor

“If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.” — Thomas Paine

(Maybe . . . if Thomas had been Swiss, or something. It seems that our country has largely forgotten the wisdom of Thomas Paine. And, that is truly a shame. I guess in order to stay “on top” you have to be: ready, ALWAYS willing, and able to kick the crap out of any perceived threat . . . actual, or otherwise. Our entire economy is predicated upon it. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

Clue/Question:  His old fishing pole was no longer usable, so he – – –

Jacksonville Fishing Report is back, and you will be, too, when weather improves this weekend

Answer:  CAST IT ASIDE

(Ooh!  That’s a stinky pun.  I’ll refrain from making any fishy smelling analogies, because I’ve already done them . . . numerous times.  And, this Jumble does not actually contain any fish anyway.  And, I’ve already played the “hook, line and sinker” card.  So, I don’t need to fish for compliments.  I’ve got bigger fish to fry.  And, I don’t need anyone giving me the old fish eye.

All of today’s clue words are old standards.  Surprisingly though, all of the jumbles are coming up as new for me.  None gave me any trouble though.  The answer letter layout was an elaborate eleven letter jumble.  It looks like it was carefully crafted to be cryptic.  But the cartoon, its dialog, and the clue/question made getting today’s answer like shooting fish in a barrel.

Fine garage scene cartoon.  A little stereotypical, but every stereotype – whether you like it, or not – is rooted in some form of truth anyway.  I know plenty of men who love to garden.  And, I know of some women who love to fish too.  All the role reversal that the media has been forcing down our throats lately has really gotten tedious anyway.  I really hate the commercial that uses da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man . . . whatever they’re selling.  Nothing against the actress.  I just think she is completely wrong for their “breaking the mold” intended message.  Gee, I hope I’ve offended someone today!  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.  Enjoy the music!)   —   YUR

Clue/Question:  He knew a lot about car waxes and polishes and was considered to be a – – –

How To Wax a Car | By Hand or Buffer

Answer:  BUFF BUFF

(Beep beep, vroom vroom!  Wax on, wax off!  A silly little, easy to get Jumble, for a Wednesday.  Not sure when the word “buff” came to mean someone in great shape, with ripped muscles.  Originally, it’s a verb meaning to polish.  It’s also a color, and it can mean a fan, as in a movie buff, history buff, car buff, etc..  The pumped buff came much later, and I guess it’s considered slang.

All familiar clue words today.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, while we’ve seen “ftasf” sometime before.  The answer letter layout was a straight eight letter jumble.  With three repeating letters it made getting the final answer pretty easy.

Fine cartoon of the outside of a car wash.  The waxer/buffer is sufficiently buff.  And, I always enjoy seeing a Jumble mobile!  They’re very rare, you know!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Alan Cohen Quotes and Sayings

If you know your true worth, you do not need anyone else to confirm it.”   —   Alan Cohen

Fred And Ginger Cheered Us Up During The Depression. Might They Do It Again? : NPR

The only way to enjoy anything in this life is to earn it first.”   —   Ginger Rogers

(Just having everything given to you makes you spoiled and lazy.  I’ve always heard that for almost every great move that Fred Astaire made, Ginger had to make it going backwards . . . and in high heels!  This appears to be the first Ginger Rogers quote to be used in a Cryptoquote!  So, today we wish Ms. Rogers a long overdue welcome to the Cryptoquote Club.  And, now I’m reminded of my own sweet Ginger.  Sweetest dog of all time!  And, she loved to dance too!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Clue/Question:  The Grizzly didn’t love having his photo taken, but he would – – –

Vintage 80′s Grin and Bear It comic. Via Skate and...

Answer:  GRIN AND BEAR IT

(Oh, don’t be such a bear!  A lot of people, especially guys, seem to have a problem smiling, whether it be for photos, or just in general.  I don’t know if they think it’s a sign of weakness, or what, but they always try to look so serious.  I think it’s dumb, because life is too short to be always wearing a puss.  Enjoy your here and now, because tomorrow you could be saying Ciao . . . to this mortal coil.

All of today’s clue words are oldies but goodies.  A couple of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve seen “grtie” and “diribe” at some earlier point in time.  The only one that took me a second look was “diribe”.  The answer letter layout was a thrilling thirteen letter jumble.  If it weren’t for the totality of the cartoon subjects, the lead up in the clue/question, and the layout of the final answer slots, this jumble would’ve been tough to unscramble!

Gotta love a talking animals cartoon.  Especially one with a Yogi Bear theme!  It looks like Yogi’s California cousins are visiting Jellystone Park for a family vacation.  No sign of Ranger Smith, or Boo-Boo!  We used to have a newspaper cartoon called Grin and Bear It!  I really enjoyed that too, even though it was almost never about bears.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

If a little knowledge is dangerous, where is the man who has so much as to be out of danger?”   —   Thomas Huxley

Eats and Sweets - Food Truck Boulder, CO - Truckster

Visual Description:  How a lot of restaurants are staying afloat.

MLUPP  =  PLUMP,  BEIAD  =  ABIDE,  CCNALE  =  CANCEL,  RDAPAE  =  PARADE   —   Giving us:  PLUABCAPRE

Clue/Question:  They designed their food truck to have – – –

The Finest Food Trucks in Central Ohio

Answer:  CURB APPEAL

(In a way this isn’t really a pun.  I know “curb appeal” is a term usually applied to a house, but it could easily apply to just about any vehicle parked on the street as well.  Most people put a lot of thought into what their food trucks look like.  They want them to stand out, but also be representational of what they sell.  And, they want them to be welcoming.  Food trucks are a popular staple at street fairs and other public – and private – events.

All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends.  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “mlupp” and “beiad” sometime before.  They all popped off the page for me today!  The answer letter layout was a terrific ten letter jumble.  Sufficiently cryptic.  But I don’t think very many struggled to get the final answer.

Fine cartoon of folks queuing up at a “Betty’s Bowls”.  They’re all “socially distanced”.  It looks like the truck specializes in some kind of Asian cuisine.  I’m spying some chopsticks in the logo.  Fun Monday fare.  Nice job, David and Jeff.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Clue/Question:  She tried to choose an outfit for her to wear, but her daughter was – – –

Pre-Answer:  One Hyphenated Word  “(7-letters)-(6-letters)

Little Girl Temper Tantrum (Page 1) - Line.17QQ.com

Answer: CLOTHES“-MINDED

(A great argument for corporal punishment!  Sure, it’s not politically/socially “correct” anymore, but it always helped reinforce who was the parent, and who was the child.  Too many of today’s parents are overly concerned with protecting their child’s psyche, instead of teaching them boundaries and acceptable behavior.  Unfortunately, it’s kind of an over-reaction to child abuse.  But measured discipline is not abuse.  It’s just part of the growing/learning process.

No new clue words today.  Five of the jumbles are coming up as new, but we’ve definitely seen “nnloie” before.  The answer letter layout was tricky thirteen letter jumble.  But “MINDED” came . . . to mind pretty quickly, and the remaining letters  provided the “CLOTHES”.  Haven’t we had a Jumble where the answer was “CLOTHES”-MINDED fairly recently???  Sounded familiar to me.

Cute cartoon.  The little girl wants to wear her tu-tu and boots, instead of something more appropriate.  Time for Mom to put her foot down.  I hope she decides to be the parent.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
