Cryptoquote Spoiler – 04/20/21

At UMN, Sotomayor shares her inspirations, irritations

If the system is broken, my inclination is to fix it rather than to fight it.”   —   Sonia Sotomayor

(But the only way to fix any broken, or corrupt, system is to fight the powers who have allowed it to break, and who are profiting from it staying broken.  We’re not talking about a toaster, or some other simple mechanical device here.  Those with power are NOT about to surrender that power without somebody forcing them to do so.  That is simply human nature, folks.  To me, this get along kind of quote leaves a lot to be desired.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 04/20/21

Clue/Question:  The stubborn and narrow-minded hog was being – – –

As happy as a pig in mud or feeling sow-er? New technology could read animals' emotions - Country Life

Answer:  PIGHEADED

(I was never a farmer, so I have zero experience with pigs.  And, even though I’ve long heard the phrase “pigheaded” it just never quite computed with me.  I’ve long heard of stubborn as a mule, so mule-headed makes a lot of sense.  But I’ve never heard anyone say as stubborn as a pig.  I just had to look this up, and here’s what I’ve come up with.  Apparently, when it comes to pigs, they cannot be driven/herded like cows, sheep, and other farm animals can be.  So, in my mind it’s less a matter of stubbornness, and more a matter of intelligence.  Cows, sheep, chickens, etc. are relatively dim-witted, and therefore compliant creatures, while pigs are one of the most intelligent species of animals.  They are smart NOT to trust us, because they know we all LOVE BACON!  Any time a human tries to get a pig to do something they just know it could be dangerous to their well-being.  In this respect we should all be more like the pig, and much less like the sheep.  Sound familiar, kiddos???

Four well worn clue words today.  Three of the jumbles came up as new, for me.  But we’ve definitely seen “tyept” sometime before today.  I was able to see all the clue words immediately.  The answer letter layout was a fine nine letter jumble, but the answer was pretty obvious to me.  I doubt any of you guys struggled to solve it too.

Cute barnyard scene cartoon.  I always enjoy when Jeff draws talking animals.  Pigs, like elephants and hippos, wallow in the mud to keep the flies, and other parasitic critters, from getting at their skin.  They know what they’re doing.  I do not recommend this behavior for people though!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Happy birthday to Marty Crandall, of The Shins!  I was going to leave you with Simple Song, but this video struck me as even more profound.  And, it leads to Simple Song!  A fantastic song!
