Vince Lombardi's Southern Season – Garden & Gun

If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm, then you will be fired with enthusiasm.”   —   Vince Lombardi

(Ol’ Vincent Thomas Lombardi is an American icon!  They don’t make them like him anymore.  And, his style might not work in today’s professional sporting environs anyway.  Today’s pro athletes need to be handled with kid gloves these days.  It’s because of the BIG bucks that they make.  Back when Vince was coaching most of his players made peanuts!  During the off-season they would either go back to the family farm/ranch, or sell used cars . . . or insurance.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

What Half-Marathons Teach Us About Running a Marathon - The New York Times

Answer:  SAID SO LONG

(Because it was SO long!  I think the only way I could finish “running” 26 miles, 385 yards would be on my hands and knees.  And then, they’d have to carry me away . . . on a stretcher!  I was a pretty good runner when I was a kid.  And, I famously used to run on the old West Side Highway when I was in my early 20’s.  There was a photograph of me in The New York Times, with the title of the article:  “Run Fast Before It’s Gone”.  Had to be either 1981, or ’82.  I also ran regularly in Central Park in those days.  And about 9 or 10 years ago I did run in a 5K charity race.  Nowadays I just run my mouth.

We have seen all of today’s clue words in Jumbles gone by.  However, all of their jumbles are coming up as new, for me.  I thought that both “nipsgr” and “yuojlf” were fairly challenging jumbles.  The answer letter layout was challenging ten letter jumble, for me.  I wasn’t zoning in on the dialog, as much as I was the effects of such a grueling race.  But after re-writing the consonants, then the vowels, in alpha order, I was able to see where they were going.

Fine after the race cartoon.  I guess the endorphins are still pumping for these guys, as I would definitely have a much more pained expression on my face!  Fun Monday Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
