Cryptoquote Spoiler – 03/01/21

Cranky no more: The life and legacy of Charles Franklin Kettering - ScienceDirect

My interest is in the future because I am going to spend the rest of my life there.”   —   Charles F. Kettering

(I guess you could say this guy was indirectly responsible for the air conditioning in our homes and automobiles!  Freon and other CFCs were definitely not good for the environment, but they did make our lives more comfortable.  And, thankfully, science has come up with much safer refrigerants since then.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Happy birthday, Roger Daltrey!  (LOL!)

Jumble Spoiler – 03/01/21

Expanding highways and building more roads actually makes traffic worse - Curbed

Visual Description:  “Damn, this traffic jam!  How I hate to be late.  Hurts my motor to go so slow.  Time I get home my supper be cold.  Damn, this traffic jam.”

FCLOA  =  FOCAL,  GDUNE  =  NUDGE,  LAFTUN  =  FLAUNT,  TRYIGT  =  GRITTY   —   Giving us:  FONFURT

Clue/Question:  The traffic congestion on the highway was a – – –

Luke's Signs: Interstate 87/Interstate 287 - N.Y. State

Answer:  TURNOFF

(Or, at least it resulted in one.  Whenever I’m driving locally, and I encounter a highway backup, I usually head to the nearest exit, so I can take the smaller state and county roads.  I don’t care if it takes just as long, time-wise, as long as I’m moving.  The stopping and going of a highway traffic jam is just so frustrating, so I’ll do whatever I can to escape them.

No new clue words today.  Two of the jumbles came up as new, for me, but we’ve definitely seen “gdune” and “laftun” before.  The answer letter layout was a concise seven letter jumble.  Not obvious, but the final solution was pretty simple.

Fine cartoon of the snarled traffic tie-up.  Is it construction?  Is it an accident?  And, if it’s an accident is it actually on your side, or is it up ahead on the other side of the highway.  That’s even more maddening, because then the slow up is due to rubbernecking!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
