Clue/Question: When they proposed an AFL-NFL Championship game be played, everyone thought – – –
Pre-Answer: Five Words (2-letters) (3-letters) (1-letter) (5-letters) (4-letters)

Answer: IT WAS A SUPER IDEA
(Most of you know that they didn’t call the first couple Super Bowls by that name. They were called the AFL-NFL World Championship Games. Lamar Hunt, the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs came up with the name “Super Bowl”. The media picked up on it, and by Super Bowl III the NFL officially adopted the name. That just happened to be the first year that the AFL – New York Jets – won the big game. The two leagues were in the process of merging for four years, and it was finalized in 1970. The newly merged NFL designated two conferences, the AFC and the NFC. The old AFL was a little smaller than the old NFL, so a couple of teams from the old NFL – Browns and Colts – were switched to the AFC, to even things out.
All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends. And, surprisingly, all of the jumbles came up as new. The answer letter layout was a super fifteen letter jumble. You just knew that the five letter word had to be SUPER!
Fine drawing of Vince Lombardi and his Green Bay Packers, at Lambeau Field, talking about the upcoming championship game. Hall of Famer Bart Starr is shown wearing his #15 jersey, holding the football. I like how Jeff drew the old two-poster upright, and placed it at the front of the end-zone, like it used to be, back in the day. Very appropriate Sunday Jumble. I’ll be pulling for the Chiefs, but I just hope one of the quarter, half, and or final scores ends in a 5 for the Bucs, and a 1 for the Chiefs! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
