Irving Thalberg

What’s this business of being a writer?  It’s just putting one word after another.”   —   Irving Thalberg

(“The Boy Wonder” of Hollywood.  He was made the head of Production at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer at the unheard of age of 26.  But, he was born with congenital heart disease, and he ended up dying – from pneumonia – at age 37.  They named a major award after him because of his amazing accomplishments.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

DIY Roofing: Should You Hire a Roofer or Repair Your Own Roof? - IKO

Visual Description:  Preparing to raise the roof.

ATTOL  =  TOTAL,  IDVIV  =  VIVID,  NRAENM  =  MANNER,  LAPLOW  =  WALLOP   —   Giving us:  TOAIIDMNNEWAL

Clue/Question:  They would work together to install the new shingles but needed to – – –

Roofing Company | HER Roofing

Answer:  NAIL DOWN A TIME

(Beautiful!  Seems like a fresh pun, to me.  It looks like these roofers are trying to hammer out a schedule.  Roofing jobs generally take a couple of days, sometimes just one, but then it’s usually a full day.  Starting at 10:00 is a little late, but starting at 11:00 is really pushing it.

No new clue words again today.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we have seen “laplow” before.  The answer letter layout was an impressive thirteen letter jumble.  Nothing obvious there.  The layout of the final answer slots was the biggest hint, for me.

Fine cartoon of some contractors.  Big palette of shingles and Tyvek.  It looks like this is either a new structure, or they’ve already removed existing shingles, as it looks like they’re down to the plywood.  So, maybe they’re planning for day two!  And, it sort of explains the late start times.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Anne Frank: Betrayed, deported, world-famous | All media content | DW | 02.03.2020

Think of all the beauty still left around you, and be happy.”   —   Anne Frank

(Out of the mouths of sweet innocence!  A very positive attitude, and outlook, on life.  We can all survive the dumpster fire we’ve been experiencing if we just look – and see – the good in the world.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Watching TV as a Couple, TV in Bedroom | Glamour

Visual Description:  Baby ALF and the John DeLorean!

GIWHE  =  WEIGH,  NILVY  =  VINYL,  CATEKJ  =  JACKET,  ENGAAD  =  AGENDA   —   Giving us:  WEVIJEAD

Clue/Question:  When she had the feeling that she’d seen the movie before, she was experiencing – – –

VIZIO 55″ Quantum HD Smart TV + $125 Dell Gift Card Only $459.99 Shipped (Regularly $550) - Hip2Save

Answer:  DEJA VIEW

(Deja ooh!  That’s a stinky pun!  But, us Jumble folk dig it . . . big time!  Cuz dat’s how we roll, yo!  Cardi B ain’t got nuttin’ on me . . . except totally ridiculous finger nails, and an exaggerated bosom and a ridonculous badonkadonk!  Are she and Nicki Minaj actually the same person, because sometimes they look like twins, to me.  Of course the crazy hair colors and outrageous outfits are a big part of it.  But, I guess this is just the – natural? – progression, of Cher . . . to Madonna . . . to Lady Gaga . . . to these ladies.  They all kinda found an angle . . . a gimmick, to make themselves stand out amongst all others.  More power to them!

Nothing new on the new clue word front.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we have seen “giwhe” in the past.  I had to double clutch on the order of the I and Y on “vinyl”, but I didn’t have to back into it.  The answer letter layout was a slick eight letter jumble.  Nada obvious thang aboudit!

Cute cartoon of a couple watching that Disney+ show.  It’s very popular with the younger/hipper crowd.  Yer Uncle Rave can’t be bothered with all these streaming services.  He’s kinda cranky.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Oprah Winfrey To Mount Arena Tour In 2020, Claims Focus Is On Health – Deadline

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”   —   Oprah Winfrey

(I wonder if Oprah actually comes up with all of the witticisms that are attributed to her, or if some of them came from her writing staff?  Either way, this is good advice.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The Best Temperature Sleeping as a Couple | isense

Visual Description:  Testing their investment.

SEGSU  =  GUESS,  NADKR  =  DRANK,  PRIELT  =  TRIPLE,  SAQHUS  =  SQUASH   —   Giving us:  ESDRATRESUS

Clue/Question:  Their new mattress came with a money-back guarantee, so they could – – –

The Sleep Wellness Institute - Full Accredited Sleep Center

Answer:  REST ASSURED

(Those guarantees give you peace of mind, but you still might have to deal with the disappointment, and then hassle of returning it.  And then having to shop/purchase another one.  But now, like just about everything else, you can buy a mattress on-line!  For me, I need to actually try certain things before I’ll buy them.  I don’t want to have to return something that doesn’t feel/fit right.  That’s why this dinosaur prefers brick and mortar stores . . . even during the age of COVID!

All familiar clue words today.  Three of the jumbles came up as new, for me.  But, we’ve definitely seen “nadkr” in the past.  I thought the jumble “prielt” was tough.  I actually had to back into “triple”.  The answer letter layout was a well thought out eleven letter jumble.  I think the leading nature of the clue/question is what gave me the final answer, despite missing the TRE.

Fine cartoon of a young couple, hopefully enjoying their investment.  Pretty good Jumble for a Monday.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

terresterial slugs of Florida

Visual Description:  Slipping the slime fantastic.

GILCO  =  LOGIC,  SHRUE  =  USHER,  LIEPCS  =  SPLICE,  NRHGAA  =  HANGAR   —   Giving us:  LGUSSIHG

Clue/Question:  The terrestrial gastropod mollusk was in a lazy mood and feeling a bit – – –

cartoon slug - Catherine Watkin: Selling from the Heart

Answer:  SLUGGISH

(Snails without shells freak most people out.  But they won’t hurt you.  Slugs are just another of nature’s creatures.  They serve a purpose.  Most just take care of decaying plants, animals and fecal matter.  They’re like nature’s garbagemen.

All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “gilco” before.  The answer letter layout was a fine eight letter jumble.

Cute cartoon of a couple of slugs.  Lots of fun.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Was He a Jerk? - Abe Greenwald, Commentary Magazine

A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep.”   —   Saul Bellow

(People can’t – don’t want to – believe that trusted sources could possibly betray them, so it’s easier to give in to the ignorance.  People need to stop believing in only what they’re told/shown, and learn to read between the lines.  And, they need to prepare to be disappointed.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

GM Futurliner Scrapbook - Charles F. Kettering

If you want to kill any idea in the world today, get a committee working on it.”   —   C. Kettering

(I know we’ve had a Kettering quote before.  Not this one, but this quote does sound familiar to me.  How about you guys?  I like how they altered the author name a bit too!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Sweden in the Europe | National states countries flags

Visual Description:  Next door to Norway.

DOWYO  =  WOODY,  PLOEE  =  ELOPE,  MSEUMR  =  SUMMER,  RHEHAT  =  HEARTH   —   Giving us:  WODEOESMMEHEH

Clue/Question:  To people native to Stockholm, the city’s houses and apartments are – – –

Party hard at the best clubs in Stockholm

Answer:   HOME SWEDE HOME

(Cue the dumb blond jokes!  Hey!  I think this is one of the few countries that Trump wanted immigrants to come from.  The dude was about as far from being diverse as one can get.  I mean white’s alright, but variety is the spice of life!  At least we finally have a woman in the VP slot!  First African-American, and first Indian-American, to go along with being a woman.  And, I might add, the first hot Vice President too!  Sure, Al Gore was handsome.  But, the dude was dull.  This Kamala is a fireball.  Did you guys catch how Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor mispronounced her name, giving her the oath?  She put the emphasis on the wrong syllable, like so many of us did when we first saw her name!  I thought it was hilarious.  Definitely ironic, coming from another “first”.  But, we all survived Inauguration Day.  It went off without a hitch, thanks to an abundance of precautions.  And, I was also happy that nothing happened at the state capitals.  I heard that people are now upset with Katie Couric, because she called for the Trump extremists to be “deprogrammed”!  Definitely an unfortunate choice of words, but I guess she could have gone with another term that THEY frequently like to suggest:  “conversion therapy”.  Well, we know that DOESN’T work on gay folk, but maybe exposing those folks to TRUTH and FACTS might bring them back to being regular Republicans.  Those folks you can work with.  Hopefully, we can get back to agreeing to disagree . . . without being so darn disagreeable.

It looks to me like “woody” is a brand new clue word.  Our good friend, ralis95, who’s been a bit under the weather lately, has a little database updating to do.  Three of the jumbles came up as new for me, though we have seen “ploee” before.  I misread “rhehat” and wrote down THREAT, by mistake!  I had to write over THT to HEH in the answer letter layout . . . which happened to be a swell thirteen letter jumble!  I just knew the en-quoted middle word was SWEDE!

Fine cartoon of a couple of blond looking Swedish folk.  I have no idea what’s on her plate though.  It’s definitely not a meatball, I can tell you that!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
