(Belated Saturday) Jumble Spoiler – 12/19/20

Girl doing handstand by michela ravasio - Stocksy United

Visual Description:  Inverted parent.

DYDLO  =  ODDLY,  PWEST  =  SWEPT,  DCIEKW  =  WICKED,  FROADF  =  AFFORD   —   Giving us:  DSWWIAO

Clue/Question:  When she saw her mom upside-down doing a headstand, the girl – – –

Young woman doing a yoga headstand - Spiritual People

Answer:  SAID WOW!

(I loved it!  It’s a totally visual kind of pun.  I guess some purists could argue that the dialog kind of gave away the answer.  I can’t think of any other words that you can make by turning the letters upside-down.  Can any of you?

No new clue words on this day.  Three of the jumbles came up as new for me, but we’ve definitely seen “dydlo” before.  The answer letter layout was a nifty little seven letter jumble.  I’m sure it left some people scratching their heads.

Fun cartoon of a teen/adult daughter and a very youthful, very fit mom!  My only criticism of this Jumble is that mom is doing a handstand, not a headstand.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

You hit the nail on the HEAD, UR!…I debated that with people all day. HANDS DOWN it was defined incorrectly…😉🙋🏻‍♀️

I liked this final answer too, and it feels fresh to Jumble. The embedded pun is like a joke that takes a few extra beats to get… I solved it and thought, “Huh?”, and then, “Oh yeah! Good job!”

The challenge here is to think of another word that can be cut in half horizontally and flipped vertically to make a new word. There are other words that can be flipped vertically and remain the same, but making a new word is a more difficult challenge. I can’t think of other letters that work for this purpose other than M, O, and W. I suppose you could argue for “om” (as in meditation) and “ow” (as in “ouch”) but it’s not as good a pair. I’m not thinking of any others right now but can’t rule out the possibility that there are other solutions.

Words were easy to figure out,but the solution was a head scratcher. Kept thinking was or down had to be one of the words, but that left me with nothing. Ok,on the theme of unscramble letters, what is the only day of the week where you can unscramble all the letters to make one word? One in seven shot. Have a good one all

I give up, Randy. Which day of the week can the letters be rearranged to spell another word?

H and I are additional letters that can be flipped vertically, but I still can’t think of new words created by turning words upside down spelled with H, I, M, O, or W, other than MOM and WOW or OM and OW.

I know, I know!!! Pick me!!! 😂 The word will start with a “D”….

Feel free to have at it, Ma’am! — YUR

  10. 10 Angela December 21, 2020 at 3:09 pm

    The word is DYNAMO! 🙋🏻‍♀️

  11. 11 Randy December 21, 2020 at 5:36 pm

The day of the week is Monday. You can rearrange the letters to make the word dynamo. I wonder if that word has ever been used in the jumble? Good job Angela. This was a tough one for me when I heard it. Happy holidays all!!

Thanks so much, for the great quiz, Randy! Looks like there’s no fooling Angela. — YUR

  14. 14 Randy December 22, 2020 at 12:12 am

My pleasure yur. Do you or Angela know if dynamo has been used as a clue word before? Is it in the rals95 database?

  15. 15 Angela December 22, 2020 at 2:00 am

    UR and Randy…Tk you, 🙋🏻‍♀️

  16. 16 unclerave December 22, 2020 at 10:20 pm

It/they (dynamo/Monday) couldn’t/can’t possibly be used as Jumble clue words, Randy. Every jumbled clue word, whether five or six letter, has to yield a single actual regular word. That’s pretty much the only way things could ever work in Jumble World! — YUR 🙂 💜

Well, after all, you are . . . on top of things! — YUR
