“Football, it seemed to me, is not really played for the pleasure of kicking a ball about, but is a species of fighting.” —George Orwell
(I’m fairly sure, his being a Brit and all, that George was actually referring to Soccer. But, this quote could very easily refer to American Football, which has been described as a kind of war. Since George was opposed to totalitarianism/authoritarianism, and an outspoken supporter of democratic socialism, I won’t even make fun of his “football”. LOL! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Clue/Question: After Apollo 11 touched down on the Moon, the astronauts could – – –
Answer: “SEA“TRANQUILITY
(I love this stinky pun! It has a freshness . . . a newness to it. You might even say that it’s out of this world! I think that people of a certain age got this answer pretty quickly. I’m just not sure about how much of the moon landing is taught in schools these days. If you didn’t know, the Apollo 11 lunar module touched down in an area known as the Sea of Tranquility. I don’t think I need to explain the peaceful view/pun aspect of the final answer.
There were no new clue words today. And, considering that I didn’t hear from Angela yesterday, I’m assuming that “minion” was an actual new word yesterday. Three of today’s jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “tidey” in the past. All the clue words came to me pretty quickly. The answer letter layout was a superb fourteen letter jumble. By itself, it gave absolutely nothing away.
Great Moon landing cartoon! Fine astronauts, a very convincing Lunar Excursion Module, and a beautiful lunar surface. I like that they can see the Earth from where they are. Hey, if you lived on the Moon, or just stayed there for about a month, would you see phases of the Earth? That would seem to explain why you see only half of the Earth. Fine Friday Jumble! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
