Clue/Question: Pickups were introduced int the 1920s. Since then, people have been able to – – –
Answer: KEEP ON TRUCKIN‘
(Ooh! A stinky pun that is also a flashback to the 1970s! That was one of the most dominant phrases of that decade. And, a great song by Eddie Kendricks, who left us far too soon. He started out as a lead singer for The Temptations, but later went solo. You’d recognize him on a number of Temps songs, but with his solo career he’s mainly known for “Keep On Truckin'” and “Boogie Down”.
All old mainstay clue words today. However, all of the jumbles appear to be new. I got them all immediately this morning. Even “opera”! The answer letter layout was a very impressive thirteen letter jumble. Beautifully cryptic. The final answer doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but the answer slots drove me to KEEP ON. And then, TRUCKIN’ sank in.
It might have been a little more obvious to me if Jeff’s cartoon didn’t look like your basic Model T. I think it was a matter of perspective. And, there were different versions. I didn’t even pick up on the the pickups, parked and passing by, until the answer came to me. Keep on truckin’, folks! Be well and do good.) —YUR
